i used to be totally up-to-date on all the latest computer hardware, but in the last year or so i haven't really paid much attention to it. like when i read about big overclocks i just don't even care anymore, and i don't know what PCI Express is or anything about AMD machines since the Thunderbird. i guess i just kind of got burnt out on it.

life just doesn't hold any excitment for me anymore. ;) j/k, i guess i just moved to different hobbies.

anyone else kinda burn out on computer hardware but still frequent this forum?

me too

after a certain point, for 99% of what most of us do, no need to know all that

if someone wants a spec sheet drawn up for their price range, i'll just look at benchmarks for their price range and what they use the system for most and make a list, other than figuring that out for mobo, cpu, and video card, the rest if personal choice for the most part.

Not me. It just doesn't seem worth it anymore. In fact, I just bought a (gasp) prebuilt system. It does what I need it to do and the price was right, so why go trough the headache?

I'm in the same boat. It just doesn't really seem to matter that much anymore. Currently running a 2500+ @ 2.3ghz with a gig of ram and 9700 pro for about a year now, and I haven't even considered uprading.

My level of junkiness corresponds directly to the amount of money I have to spend on hardware.

I used to read all the latest tests and such; Now, I could care less. CPU's are so cheap nowadays, who cares if you can overclock or not?
There's nothing that you can do with one of the top AMD FX cpu's combined with a good graphics card that you can't do with, say, a 2400+ and a good vga card.
So why bother?
I've had this same system for 2 1/2 years now, 2200+, 9700 Pro, 1 gig ddr, etc. There no game that I play that I can't max the graphics out on, so I really haven't gotten the bug to upgrade.

Maybe I'll try Doom 3 or Halflife 2 and decide I need more....but I doubt it.

The good old days of getting more cpu horsepower for cheap, like the old 366 Celerons that you could overclock to 550 or more are gone.

Heh, I'm running a 1700+ @ 1500+ speed (with option for 2.0 GHz), 256 MB of ram, and a GeForce2 MX400. Not exactly the most up to date stuff.

edit: And despite my post count, I do lurk a lot.

me too. i've moved on to other things to completely waste my money on. i haven't been following computer hardware (religiously) since the Athlon came out!:Q

add to that the fact that you can buy a PC for as cheap, if not cheaper, than you can build it, and depending on what you buy the hardware can be fairly decent. plus, i just don't need lots of power anymore. there's no difference between my old 300a @ 450 and my 2 ghz Thinkpad, as far as web browsing and email is concerned.

i too see no point in upgrading as often. i would upgrade my computer to browse the internet and look for more hardware to get.

I agree 100% with the OP.

Ever since around when the Thunderbirds and TB XPs came out, I just havent cared as much. I used to follow this stuff RELIGIOUSLY.

Part of it is that the stuff is harder to follow now sort of... at least thats my perception. Its hard to know the difference between an Athlon FX 53 compared to a P4 3 ghz. Then again, if I cared, Im sure I would know the difference.

I'm running a 2ghz athlon with 1 gb of ram and a geforce 4400. I'll upgrade when I can more than double my speed.

IF you are talking about Tools, I am all over that. As for computers, I have been slackin' for the last year.

Gotta agree. With the speeds of CPUs these days, who cares any longer? It's not that important to squeeze that extra 200MHz out of the CPU......esp. when you can flip your old CPU for a new one for a cost of just a few bucks in the end.

I'd think very few computers these days are really stressed at all by what the majority does with them......

I'm running a 2.8GHz cpu w/1GB DDR......and have no interest in looking for more speed or memory. Why would I need it? So I can brag?
