i see it every time i get my license renewed. you know why? because they give you a discount if you are an organ donor. and they tell you about it, even if you're already an organ donor.

I didn't see it when I renewed my license at 21, and I'm 30 yo and I didn't have to renew my license since I was 21 - so thats 10 years (have to renew it this year) I could have died and not been a donor if I forgot to check it the last time.

I checked my box at 16 yo so maybe it just wasn't mentioned again at 21 yo, but I think your full of shit any way - they definitely didn't bring it up

might it be that they simply don't want to?

I believe they actually also covered that, and they indicated that people who would be a organ donor simply didn't feel like checking the box because they just skimmed over it.

I'm pretty sure there was a survey done which showed a huge discrepancy between people who were fine with being donors, and people who actually checked the box.

This study wasn't some undergrad research project, it was a project devoted specifically to see how to increase donor numbers.

maybe i just get lucky? how do you go 10 years without getting your license renewed? i get mine every 4. for the last 20 years i've been hearing about saving 2 bucks or whatever if i become an organ donor.

edit: wow, mine is good for 10 years this time too. i just realized i hadn't looked when it expired in awhile.

crazy. the georgia dmv gives you a discount for becoming an organ donor, and they point it out (at least to me, ymmv) every time i get it renewed.

edit: nevermind, they stopped doing this is 2005. weird, i would swear they mentioned it last time i had my license renewed.

edit again: i did it online last time. duh. i hate getting old.

and yes doctors and hsopitals do lie, they have to think about the bottom line cost, not your life. im just trying to spread the word about the hazards of organ donation...

You're spouting off nothing but absurdities. You honestly believe that Doctors knowingly lie to families to save the hospital money? Do you believe that the physicians are then getting kickback checks, too? Inane.

Because thats the interval between getting your license at 21, and then 31 yo. Where do you live? This is the interval in every state in the US that I've ever seen

georgia. it used to be every 4 years. apparently they extended it, because this time it's 10. i guess we finally caught up with everyone else.

that's actually a pretty old conspiracy theory or whatever. i've heard that argument more than once. and it's less the doctors and more the administration and insurance companies. it's cheaper to just kill some people than to keep them alive.

Wow, I saw the thread title and immediately anticipated the stupidity before I even read the thread.

Anyway, yes, I'm an organ donor, and proudly so.

Seriously. Someone besides OBLAMA who is clearly delusional and living the tin-foil life, explain to me what a logical reason for NOT being an organ donor looks like. I have to see this.

absolutely. a doctors performance evaluation at a hospital or an hmo is based in part on how fast he moves patient out of the facility. every hospital has "social workers" that monitor every case of every doctor to make sure that case is being handled as economically efficiently as possible, and that often means pressuring the family to let their member die, or telling them they need to move them to another facility.

No, they don't. And I said logical. I should of included both you and OBLAMA.

I want to hear from someone else, you guys are clearly both delusional.

i'm not one of those people, i'm just saying. i'm also an organ donor, i was just having a bit of fun with the whole alien thing.

and i'm pretty sure they do, i've heard that somewhere. maybe it's not christians.

edit: apparently all of the mainstream religions are fine with it.

I actually have a sticker on mine that says "Please give me a transplant."

If I ever wreck, the Dr. will be looking for ways to get me new organs, not trying to find recipients for mine.

So thank you for being a donor.

Of course this exists, but it does NOT mean doctors are killing off patients - that's absolutely absurd.

LOL, right. More likely you will die and nobody will see any of your organs either even though you could have possibly saved a life.

Organs don't just pop up, you usually need to be on a list. This means you can't be dying that night, you have to survive months before you have a shot at one.

And you know why? Because of douche bags like you, erik and OBLAMA

You guys need to educate yourself

wait why am i a douche bag? i am a donor. i'm really offended by your ignorance. i am going to make a list of people i don't want to have my organs, and you will be at the top.

also, apparently you've never seen grey's anatomy. people get organs all the time after just having crashes. everyone knows this.

Nah i'll pass, thanks though.

The only organ I will ever need is a new liver. And luckily out of my 3 brothers, we have 1 who has had maybe 2-3 drinks in his entire life. The rest of us thank him every so often for taking good care of it.

Then why are you arguing the other way. Maybe I misinterpreted your posts or mistakenly took them as someone elses above, but you seem to be agreeing entirely too much with OBLAMA

i wasn't so much agreeing with that crazy person as noting that i'd heard the same conspiracies where doctors were pushed to let patients die because it was cheaper for the hospitals and/or insurance companies. i didn't say i believed it. i can't honestly imagine they would be able to hide things like that.

Nope. I am one of those people that can donate blood to anyone. I figure if I can do that, I can probably donate organs to everyone too.

I don't want to lie down in a hospital bed and be murdered by a doctor so they could harvest my organs to give to someone more "deserving" or for a profit.

I've also told family many times I don't give them permission to give anything away in case I turn into a vegetable or get into an accident.

When reading this it makes it seem that you wouldn't even give your own family the organs. That is just hilarious.

Its people like you that make me hope Karma is a reality. I can only hope your real life is as miserable as your attitude on these forums.

I think organ donors should get priority over non-organ donors when they need a transplant. This would encourage more people to be donors.
That makes zero sense.
What if the person can't be an organ donor because they have hepatitis, HIV, sickle cell, tuberculosis, or some other condition that prevents them from donating organs or giving blood?
