Are you running a computer as a dvr/pvr?

actually looking for hardware/software recomendations :) I have Tivo and love it, but not being able to record 2 things at once is a killer.

I'm probably going to be upgrading my motherboard/cpu in a couple months, at which point I'd convert my current setup into a dvr.

(DirecTivo = not an option)

I'm using Beyond TV 3.5.1 with a Hauppauge 250 card. Takes a bit of effort to setup the encoding properly but I can capture MPG2, remove commercials with Mpg2VCR, then burn a DVD of the recordings using Ulead DVD studio. Of course, you can just store stuff on the HD and play it directly from the interface. So far as I know, it doesn't recognize DRM prection bits (yet).

I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 from Time Warner, which allows me to record two shows at once, and watch one show previously recorded.

And I have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR150MCE along with Microsoft Windows Media Center 2005... currently recording NFL Live.

No, because I have Dish Network DVR that will allow me to record 2 things at once while watching a previously recorded program, or watch one program and record a program at the same time.

I was going to build a PVR computer, but the only way I could do it was with analog cable. Otherwise the only way to change the channel on the satellite or cable box is to setup an IR blaster, and that seemed like a big hassle.

Dish PVR does the same thing and the overall cost for 120 channels is still pretty cheap each month, when compare with my local cable service. I can always pull the programs off the satellite if I want to burn them to DVD.
