I hate my job. I hate it so much I think of jumping infront of a car everyday so I'd get hit and then I won't feel guilty about not going to work the next month or more. I make very good money, but I came to the reality of money isnt everything after I took this job.

I work minimum 100 hours a week.
I make $100K+.
I can't get any sleep.
When I get some sleep, its not relaxing at all, I spend 2 hours trying to sleep, thinking of whats going on in the office.
When I wake up, I am miserable. Incredible headaches, red eyes, dry skin, and I feel that my hair is getting weak as well.

All this for 0 acknowledgement of everything I do.

And I miss my family (parents)... I see them once a year maybe :(

Public Accountant? Investment Banker?

Yea, what job do you have?

I am an analyst within the financial institutions group of an IB.

I love my job!. I've just finished my first year of nursing on a med-surg floor and I couldn't be more pleased. I go to work happy, and I leave work happy. It sure beats engineering by a mile. :)

I used to love my job. But now I am pretty miserable. I still like the actual work that I do but it's my work environment which is dismal, and I'm really getting more and more conscious about working for someone else. I desperately want to start my own business but I have no idea what to do and how to start. At this point I don't think I'll ever be happy working as an employee drone in a cubicle and a barcode on my forehead. I need to find a way out if I am to stay sane.

And the winner is: Citigroup...our fellow competitors... ;) Oh, wait a minute...in most areas of IB we are #1 now...hello colleague... ;) ;)

I'm on my way to my dream job...becoming a math teacher : )

before I was entering my senior year as an EE going into sigs/comm

I had always planned on retiring early and going into teaching, but I just realized why waste my time with something that'll make me miserable? No way I could ever work in an office/cubicle...or without helping children.

My current job(s) suck(s), but I just got a new one thats going to solve an assload of problems with increased salary and benefits package. The work sounds like it will be reasonably tough, but the team I'm going to work with seems pretty great. And my wife and I will be better taken care of and be much closer to our goals.

I think anyone who starts to look at what they do as "work" will eventually be unhappy with it. That said, I love what I do and can only imagine myself doing one other thing (being a cop, but that ain't gonna happen, I'd be a dirty cop ;)).

If you are happy, what was the process you took to find out what you loved?

Please tell me your story.

OR

If you are not happy, do you plan on changing your situation? Are you OK not be at a job/career that you enjoy?

Please tell me your story.

I am just curious as to what other folks on here do and how they feel about their job/career.

Situation

Changing it => Going to apply for a low paying job that's fun, like the guy who wears the Mickey Mouse costume at Disney.

Any other fun suggestions?

Heh. I thought that was my line.

I enjoy my job and what I do, but I freely admit that if they stopped paying me, I'd stop showing up.

You won't be able to keep this up indefinitely. Eventually you'll start to burn out and your performance will fall off. If you keep pushing yourself past that point, health issues will follow (although it sounds like you might already be getting there).
You make good money. Save some up for a move to a better work environment.

I have never in my life enjoyed waking up. :p But once I'm awake, I'm happy to be going in to work. I love what I'm doing and I get to work with some great people.

I had a job before that I hated, and by learning what I hate I was able to learn what was really important. :)

Eh, I do what I do, I try to do a good job, but in the end I don't get any satisfaction building someone else's empire.

I enjoy what I am doing now.

I graduated top of my class with my B.S. in chemical engineering. I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for about 5 years in various roles (engineering, QA, regulatory). I was making good money, had stock options worth a pretty penny, and a 10 minute commute which in L.A. is saying something.

But I was bored so I went back to grad school to get my Ph.D. in ChemE, I have two years left before I will defend my thesis. My research kinda spans the areas of solid-state surface physics, nanotechnology, and reaction kinetics.

I'm glad my wife was so gun ho about me going back to school... we are having a blast and physics / material science / chemical engineering research is definitely what I want to do to earn my keep in the future.

I honestly really like my job and the people I work with. But it's not a career and I'm only going to be doing it for another couple of years.

It sounds like no one here is self employed, you should try it sometime, keeps you on your toes.

I love it when someone posts their salary (of which no one with a low salary has posted) then people jump into this thread saying "WHAT DO YOU DO!?!?!?!?!?!?! PLEASE TELL ME!!!!!!!". I love these types of threads because there are so many wanna-be's lurking in them.
