Mitt's not too far off compared to McCain's 'middle class' of up to $5 million.

The important point to me isn't that Romney is out of touch, but that he is so out of touch that he doesn't know how out of touch he is. He actually thinks he can lead a people he doesn't even understand. It his egotistical arrogance I don't like.

Lower middle class. $250k to Romney is like chump change, his proposed tax cuts would amount to that difference for him for one year.

Get a grip. 200-250k and under is indeed middle class depending on where you live. As already stated he said "200-250 and under". That is fucking spot on accurate.

Median income is 50k you say? That doesn't make you middle class in NYC, or San Fran... It makes you poor.

In the interview he said "less than 200-250," not 200-250.

Not much difference. $200k is less than $250k when you give it a range like that. Regardless, the man has no clue actually what middle class is OR he is trying to push the definition up so he can roll out tax breaks to higher earning people.

And Obama agrees with him apparently. Obama believes middle class extends to 250K. Guess it is time for the cup of liberal rage on Romney for saying something similar to Obama.

Middle Class != "Middle Income"

"Middle Income" would be more like the Median income, which is around $45,000 a year.

What does that have to do with GenX's comment? Obama also stated that he will cut taxes on the middle class up to $250k. Romney is misquoted and people run with it. It was pointed out in this thread that Romney said 200-250k AND LESS. The quote left out that last portion. Romney and Obama basically agree that the middle class is 250k and under. What is the issue here?

Edit: Nevermind, I see Romney did say Middle Income. When I saw it the first time, I just figured he meant middle class. If he truly thinks middle income is 200-250k and not 45k, he truly is clueless.

What are you guys, European?

Are you feeling proletariat today, or bourgeois?

Why accept the definitions of communists and "progressives" that are stuck in the rut of provably false assumptions?

Why buy into the Obamaites class envy tactics and rhetoric in any way shape or form? The Obamaites are just the old and tired voices of Marx, Lenin and Trotsky - nothing new there at all.

Americans don't have "classes" because they have minimal barriers to move from one wealth category to another, from one social category to another, through their own good efforts. Unlike old Europe and a lot of other societies with their blind faith in socialism, imposed stratification and worse.

Here you can be rich one day and poor the other. You can be poor today and a millionaire another.

The real distinctions are only two:

Naturally talented or not

and

Good work ethic or not

And I would argue that not being naturally talented is not even that much of a limiting factor.

Poor means you haven't made it yet, or have accepted mediocrity. Middling means you have a way to go yet, or you have become comfortable. Rich means that you still have to keep making enough to keep an increasingly redistributionist government from taking away all that you have and are facing very tough competitors.

Are there social classes? Sure, but you can break into any of those if you really want to.

But why would you? It is like putting on a Halloween mask and role playing. Fun for a while, but the fun only lasts if you are a poseur at heart.

All of it. You? Less than a range of 200 to 250 means that it could be 199 to 249 and still be less than the range. Is there a reason to throw out cuss words on that one? Bother you?

By the way, the exact quote is:

"No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less" (source, quote from Yahoo news article). So do you still stand by your statement?

It is an overblown spectacle based on a quote taken out of context. I find it obnoxious as can be however given the Romney campaign has done the exact same thing with out of context quotes from Obama I can't say I really feel sorry for them in this case either.

Yes I do. Only a moron would assume he is talking about anything other than the middle class.
