Is power lifting some kind of trendy excuse or innuendo I'm not familiar with?

Arnold is 6'2" and weighed 235-240 as Mr Universe.

Lollerskates.

The plain and simple truth is this: Having a good BMI rating != (is not equal to) being healthy.

Take a look at some of the best football players out there. Vernon Davis is a perfect example.

6'3" at about 250lbs. According to that chart, he is obese:

That is not to say that the gents talking about body building are this fit, but they are in much better health than the 6'2 180lb kid that drinks Mountain Dew and eats cheeseburgers but keeps his caloric intake at the right level to maintain a proper weight.

That said, I used to do lifting in highschool as part of a football program, and have a bunch of muscle underneath an unhealthy layer of fat. As a result, I weigh a lot more than I look like. Muscle weighs more than fat, that is the underlying problem with a BMI chart. Generally speaking, a BMI chart is accurate for the normal person, but not for those who are muscular.

5'5 and 148lb, voted near target. I've lost 15lbs over the past year. Goal is 140lb. Completed p90x last year, did regular workouts afterwards and now have been trying the insanity program. When I'm done with that I think I may try crossfit.

Chart says I'm halfway between target and high weight. However, I consider myself overweight and out of shape right now. Meh, I'll start running when I come out of hibernation.

I'm 6'2" 190lbs. Work out 3 times a day, have visible abs and my pecs stick out further than my stomach. Funny that I'm nearly "overweight." I consume about 5000 calories a day.

Survived the plague, I see.

I'm normal. Fat balding middle aged guy. Screw the chart.

Heh, no stuff for you it seems, the fever didn't last long at all. Not sure if it was from the ibuprofen or it was just a weak one. Still fighting other things I usually get with colds though.

According to your scale, I am. According to my doctor's scale I am not.

That said, I can stand to lose a bit more weight. If only it wasn't so damn cold, I'd run a lot more.

5'7", just under 190lbs here, so according to the chart I could lose another 20lbs. However, I'm pretty muscular and a size 34 is loose on me.

You know what is funny?

My cousin is almost 5'8" and 194 pounds. Honestly, everyone pretty much says he looks good at that weight as compared to when he was 160-165 pounds. He looks solid and wears a size 36 or 38. Looks like solid weight.

Everyone carries their weight differently.

in what world is a 6'3 person's target weight 179?

I'm 6'3 and was at that weight a few years ago and I was thin looking. My ass was indented.

Personally I have a bit on chub I'm trying to get back off on. However, I'm not beer gut fat either. 6'1" at 236 pounds right now (was 252 a couple months ago). right now my waist size has shrunk from 42 to 38 inches as well. However, being at 171 is ludicrous. I was about that weight when I graduated highschool and I was thin as a rail, I was a 27-28 inch waist then for my height. I was stupidly skinny.

I'll be happy if I get to 190-200 range again. That should put me back to a size 32 waist for my height.

By that chart I'm obese.

my 33" waist and 43" chest thinks otherwise. I could stand to lose 12-15lbs.

I also have probably much thicker proportions than you too :) I got a pretty big barrel chest and my legs are really just all meat. I can't use 3 hands to encircle the widest part of my calf for example. Years of playing sports like soccer, swimming, baseball, football, and running gave me really massive legs for my size.
