Bill Mahr has just stated indignantly that nobody is hungry in America.
I think I'd like to feed him my shoe.

Compared to most second and third-world countries, all US citizens are well-fed. My favorite is the fat bum asking for change. No work, no house, no money, but he looks like he's been eating good. When is the last time you heard people dying from hunger in America? It happens all the time in Africa. This is one time I would agree with Mahr.

Seriously though, there are enough programs out there, not to mention widespread availibility of cheap food, that while people may be lacking in other things, food is not one of them.

He's got a point. The poverty level in America would be considered middle-class or even upper-class in most third-world countries.

I think it depends on what age group you are looking at. There a lot of elderly people that don't get enough to eat.

When you decide to get off your ass and take a look at places other than your immediate vicinity, take a walk down to you local shelter, or in a neighborhood on the wrong side of the proverbial tracks. You'll see plenty of people who starve. Its easy for people like Bill Mahr to make claims about things that arent headline news, because mindless automatons like yourself will immediately take his word for truth rather than to take the time and go see for yourself. Try to remember that the Internet, Television and Radio dont give you ALL of the NEWS ALL of the time. I work in a shelter close to where I live here in Gloucester County, NJ. I did the same when I lived in Orlando, Fla. I see people that are starving for one reason or another at least once a week working for VOADV here in Thorofare, NJ.

What unseen knowledge do you and Bill Mahr have that I dont?

The knowledge that the american system can be worked if you're motivated to eat. Food stamps, begging, dumpster diving. We're a wealthy country, and it trickles downhill. Our definition of hunger is another's definition of middle class.

I live right next to a community where work is abhorred, yet they have no problem getting enough to eat...welfare, here I come.

Why are all of you making the weak argument that our poor is most of the worlds middle class?
The question was is anyone hungry in the USA.
There is someone that is hungry in the USA now.
How about thinking of a child that can't feed itself?
