Are you offended by this? (I'm tempted to email this thread to him)

I'm an intern at New England Cable News, responding to emails for the show TVDiner

To Whom It May Concern:

On your show of November 1, 2003 one of your guests made an Irish stereotype remark about a seven course Irish meal--a six pack and a potato and showed a six pack and a potato. It was obviously rehearsed and approved.

Unless there is an on-air apology to the Irish community, I will personally see that all of your sponsors are boycotted by the Irish community. These remarks were disgraceful and all such racial and religious slurs should be banned by your program.

I expect a quick reply.

Donald J. Burke

I'm not irish but if someone made a same level of remark about Koreans, I wouldn't be offended to the point that ' will personally see that all of your sponsors are boycotted by the Irish community.'

Sometimes people are way too sensitive.
They need to get a life and worry about something that really matters.

some people get real upset about their cultures. I just dont get how this one joke is worse than any other ever made on tv before.

Sometimes people click too many times.
They should click less.

Dear Donald J. Burke,

None of our sponsors sell Whiskey, Potato Products, or Four-Leaf Clovers, so I feel your threat of mobilizing the Irish Community would be ineffective.

Thank you for your continuing viewership,

LOL!

Were you showing some episode of the Simpsons?

Ahhhh.... I remember the good old days when ppl were able to laugh. Laugh at them selves and at each other and it was all light hearted and no one intended offense and no one took offense.

Long before the days PC and over analysing everything said, walking on eggshells and threats of lawsuits and boycotts.

Sheesh!! the good old days.

🙂

Lol.

It's funny, really... a lot of the youth in America now have only known America as their homeland. So, just becuase they have Irish heritage or German or whatever, doesn't mean they know ANYTHING about the culture.

So for someone with Irish heritage or another heritage to say "I wasn't offended by that joke" doesn't mean much, since a lot of them have never even lived where their ancestors came from.

BUT , in the same light, I would say that I'm American by culture, and it is my homeland and the nationality I feel most pride/obligation to. And I still think cracks on Americans are hilarious. ie. "I'll just put it on my credit card!" haha lol... well I do say that.

Does anyone know why God gave man alcohol?

To keep the Irish from ruling the world 😛😀

<- mostly Irish (descent, otherwise 100% American 🙂 )

Man, if I got upset and boycotted over every polish joke that was told, I'd probably have to grow my own food, make my own clothes and live on some isolated ranch in Montana. Luckily I find them as funny as any other joke.

<-----Polish (actually American, but you get the point)
