Are you more likely to wait for bulldozer now?

I was going to build a PC based on Sandy Bridge, but now since I'm waiting for new silicon, I might as well wait for Bulldozer or Ivy Bridge. This A64 is getting long in the tooth though.... Who's waiting and who's going ahead?

I may swap my p35 board for a g41 DDR3 board, assuming I can find one that is cheap and can maintain my e2160@2.93ghz. Not an upgrade, but I want to start selling my DDR2 off. After that I'll probably just wait until April. The other option is to get an athlon II @ 3ghz as an interim upgrade and sell my old stuff off to use the DDR3...then move it to my wife's PC when the big upgrade comes. I don't really want to do that though as then I'm spending more money on the interim.

I'm throwing $ into the new pc rathole. I picked up the Antec 902 for $70 yesterday. PSU is next. After that, the rest is contingent on the Motherboard/processor choice. I will try to pick up everything else all at once.

Because my P67 had not been dispatched yet i cancelled my order, now i think ill hold out untill z68 chipset (should be about the same time as p67 re-released)

In the mean time it would be nice if AMD could get some price/performance data out for bulldozer.

I have no brand loyalty, and intel only won my buisness because they had the better product at the time of purchase.

Now im going to have to wait 2months (ish) it gives AMD time to get some competition out their and win back some buyers

Oh well maybe in April I have some more scratch put aside for a nicer video card to go with it.

Pondering it. Might sell my 460 as well until we get clarity. No sense in it collecting dust.

I am going to do a new build by mid-summer anyway and so I'll just bide my time and hope Bulldozer is released so I can make an informed decision.

Nope, because I was going to wait until q3ish to even think of making a new build. So I would hope bulldozer is out by then!

No, my mobo will be here tomorrow with the CPU and other stuff close behind. I am just going to use the SATA 3 ports provided by marvell for the HDDs. I haven't bought an optical drive yet, but I will probably end up getting an external so I can use it with my netbook. Therefore, this whole overblown problem is not going to affect me.

Just to clarify further. P67/H67 SATA 3.0 ports are also unaffected. Only SATA 2 ports off P67/H67 have issues. Which means if you have Marvell SATA 3.0 ports, you will have at least 4x SATA 3.0 ports which are going to work perfectly fine.

Good to know. Can you use ATAPI with the Intel 3.0 ports? Not a big deal considering I have found lots of external drives that are the same price or just a bit more than internal, and the aforementioned netbook can use external.

I've always used amd before, I built a sandy bridge when my old pc went down because lets face it amd has really dropped the ball as of late, so if performance is decent I will for sure be giving bulldozer a shot. Although I may wait until it's been on the market a few months before taking that plunge.D:

I was planing on a SB build...but may just wait another year now. My q9550 is still sufficient for games and I don't really do much video encoding and what not. I did get a new HD6950 that I think will get me through most of 2012 if not further. That money I save may go into a new case though. My system is loud. Heck, I may even get some faster memory and overclock my 9550 past 3.4 (my motherboard can only do 2:1 ratio :(.)

I'd been waiting to upgrade my P35/Conroe build and had decided on SB. I'll now wait till BD is out before making my next build.

lol @ what some of you people are "upgrading" from to your Sandy bridge builds. No wonder there has been so much hoopla over this bad flaw that is easily worked around.

The question in the title is one I am pondering. I had settled on the sandy bridge and was ready to buy then I noted the issue with chipsets.

So I am choosing between the amd phenom II 955 x 4 BE 3.2 Ghz or a athlon II x 3 3.2Ghz and either a nicer MB with the phenom or a cheaper one with the athlon II.

(Could try the phenom II x2 3.2Ghz BE as a roll of the dice for a low budget build alternate)

If I go with the cheaper set up I will do it because of wanting/planning on buying the Bulldozer AMD chip and compatable MB. All the other newer parts I buy should work with the bulldozer.

Bulldozer will use DDR3,right?

My rig now is a AMD 64 X2 3800+ (2.2Ghz) and its gotta go, now.

The funny part is so many people are considering AMD Phenom II series after the 6-series chipset flaw, despite the fact that anything from Core i5 760 to Core i7 950 whoops anything AMD has from $180 and up. It really makes no sense to get anything AMD > $150.

i agree

unless you can get a Microcenter build(x6 + mobo for $200, or x4 + mobo for $100) or can't wait for SB fixes in march/april

Just have to swap SATA ports and you're good to go. Mine has 8 ports so it's not a big deal at all to swap from the SATA2 to SATA3 ports. In the worst case scenario those that got their SB sets already have at least 2 ports that are perfectly fine.

I wont wait for a chip that hasnt shown anything but a paper trail on stats. AMD just simply hasnt done anything exciting for awhile. I dont expect much on bulldozer. But with that said, it would be sweet if it kicked some butt.. Drive the prices down and get CPU's performacen jumping again. I look at my old E8400 and the New 2600K.. game wise there just isnt much a jump, sad for a 4 year old chip to be only slightly behind a new one. Just 10 years ago, 2 years ment 2X the speed almost like clockwork.

$30 sata card and New MB in a month or so.. annoying but... eh... pretty small annoyance.
