are you meant to report parking lot hit and runs?

Someone nicked my girlfriend's car while it was parked on the street, scratching the side and popping off the mirror (and not sticking around to identify themselves). Her mom told her to call the insurance company and the police. Is that right?

(don't tell her that when she turns to me for advice, I turned to ATOT)

Not sure.. but my friend's rear quarter panel got messed up in the parking lot and the lady stuck around.. Her insurance company gave him $2500 to fix it.. he got it fixed and had the whole car repainted.. lol

You just call the regular (non 9-1-1) PD number then?

Thanks again folks.

Yep.

I'd just call insurance...wth are the police gonna do?

Always file a police report on an accident. It can potentially protect you from a lot of problems later.

here in NY, if a witness reports a hit and run, and the owner of the car who gets hit doesn't, then nothing more is ever said. However, if the guy who got his car hit reports it, the hit and runner now has to pay the damages from his insurance and also gets a ticket for being a rude dipsh1t

oh nice one, i was just thinking that possibly the insurance company wouldn't believe you if you don't file an official report. but i guess it's possible that someone could have reported it, since it occurred during the day in a fairly busy area.

well, here's a fun story... I was at a mall in a small small town (Massena, NY, population ~20,000 for anyone wondering) when my old '88 ranger was clipped by a young girl driving a stratus. I called and reported it, thinking that it would be futile... turned out that EIGHTEEN people had reported it, and they were just waiting for my call.

So, anyways, I would report it, for sure :p can't hurt!

20,000 is small small?? You got a lot to learn. ;) My town is 5,000 and I consider it somewhat large.

Well, MY town is ~3-4,000 , our closest "commercial" town is Massena, and figured I would call it small for the people in the cities to relate ;)
