It all depends really. Also I'm sure it would depend on the cause- an adrenaline rush is more likely to happen if you get infuriated or self-defensive.

Having said that, I wrestled for 2 years in MS, and 4 in High School on top of other sports, so it wasn't uncommon for me to practice against people bigger than I.

I'm not tall by any means but don't really have any issues with people bigger than me. I play a lot of sports so I tend to play with many people larger than me. I still probably talk an equal, if not more trash and still can hold my own.

I'm 6'5" and I think it's weird when I find a guy who is my same height. It just feels odd to be able to look him in the eye, though I don't feel weird sitting a table talking to people. I always think that people are taller than they actually are, I guess because I see the top of their head and forget that there is a couple of inches of me above my eyes.

lol... at 5'4'' 155lbs I am very scrappy but my reach puts me at a disadvantage. Like slimrhcp said I NEED to get someone on the ground.

I am never afraid of guys bigger than me but when it comes to guys my height/size I may get a little nervous.

And for the record no Napoleonic complex here.

I'm not intimidated by anyone, really. I live in a safe part of the world and don't put myself in situations where I have to be afraid. If anything, i kinda feel bad for tall people because they can have trouble fitting into places. Roller coasters, sports cars, airplane seats, doorways to name a few.

If you've seen the special features on the Princess Bride DVD, there's a thing on there about Andre the Giant, and in an older interview he was saying how being tall was a curse because the world accommodates people of most other disabilities but if you're tall, you have to make yourself fit. It didn't make sense at first, but it did when I thought about it.

I find that when I run into bigger people (I don't see that many b/c I'm 6'4 and lift weights) I likely do the same thing. I think "he is bigger than me... could he kick my ass?". I don't get nervous, but their presence becomes really obvious in my head--naturally, larger people (height, broad shoulders and muscle) stand out.

Do you find guys who are a good half foot taller than you and more muscular to be "intimidating" to an extent?
(Not in the piss-your-pants kind of way, but do you feel somewhat intimidated by their presence?)

No, not trying to sound like an e-penis post but I have taken full contact martial arts and it is usually the smaller ones you have to watch out for. If they are big, they are usually slow. The small ones will kick you in the teeth twice before you can get your hands on them.

Being tall has nothing to do with it, it's how strong, muscular they look that will do it. The guy can be 7ft tall, but if he's skinny like Gilligan, then I'm not going to be intimidated.

If he looks like Andre the Giant or Big Show, yeah, I'd be a tad nervous :)

Most big guys have been able to rely on being big all their lives, but that won't save them in a fight with someone smaller that actually knows how to fight. People don't fare very well when they're on the receiving end of roundhouse kicks to the legs. Then once they're on the ground everyone is the same height. Kimura = /fight :)

I'm 6"4", so people taller than me are pretty rare. Whenever I meet one of them I'm not intimidated, but I do feel a bit weird, since I am used to tilting my head down when talking to people. Looking straight or even slightly upwards is a really weird feeling for me.

Coming from a big tall person (6'9", 300 lbs), I can tell you that my feelings are thus:

I rarely look at a guy and consider the fact that he could kick my a$$. I'm not cocky about it, I just never really get worried about guys that are big. Guys that are taller than me a rarely stocky, so I don't worry about them either.

I have never noticed someone react defensively around be because I'm tall. Never.

If anyone tell you that tall people are generally more social than short people, it's true. You have to be. I get asked almost every day how tall I am. If I didn't get used to that, I would freak out.

I hear the same thing like 4 times a week. Try doing that for 6 years it's enough to make you wanna snap. I feel your pain brother.

Intimidated? No. Conscious of a big difference in size? Often.

Women have their own gig - they are often very conscious of whether or not a girl they meet is prettier than them.

The kimura actually originated in Judo, which isn't featured prominately in the UFC. And leg kicks have existed since the advent of unarmed combat. So where do you draw the conclusion that I'm just a UFC fanboy?

Well, first of all it's not called a kimura in Judo, only in BJJ and through it MMA; however, the lock also exists in catch wrestling and isn't exclusive to the JJ tradition. Leg kicks aren't exclusive to any particular tradition either, but the only place that they would occur along with a kimura would be in MMA (although roundhouse kicks to the legs seems very odd). Since the UFC is the only MMA organization that most Americans are familiar with, it seemed like a fair assumption that you are a UFC fanboy. If that's not the case, I apologize.
