I don?t believe you have to comply with him or their security guards. Just walk to your car, they can not physically force you to stay there unless they saw you take something, and then its even shady.

Fvck that sh!t. Nobody is going to "detain me" unless they have a badge and a gun.

Nothing is stopping them then from calling the police and telling them they have reason to believe you have left without paying for merchandise...now as your packing up your stuff and pulling away 2 or 3 police officers can stop you and with the cooperation of store security can make your next hour or so suck.

choice is yours. not always beneficial to be so self righteous..

I let some old guy at wally world run a scanner over my bags. The stupid self checkout didn't deactivate a security tag on something I bought. Then I had to stand there while he filled out some stupid form saying I actually paid for the item. I should have just kept walking when the old geeser asked me to stop.

if you steal something at best buy...and make it off the curb of the store, you are home free, the employees are NOT allowed to chase you and detain you (you can sue them if they hurt you) when i worked at BBY back in high school they drilled this into us (our store had tons of shrink)

They told me a story about a guy who put a tv into a shopping cart, and charged for the door and made it out.

Of course, when it was in his car they got his license plate and the police picked him up...but the employees couldnt detain him once he crossed the fire lane paint in front fo the store...

What principle? During your course of life, you're probably confronted with these situations that conflict with "principles" thousands of times. Be a decent human being and pick your rebelious acts; don't be one of those annoying people you see in public who likes to make a scene at the slightest of problems.

Yeah.... all the things in Target, and i am going to steal a $5 package of Angel Soft bath tissue.
They ask, but i simply walk away.
The best part is that they usually SEE me at the check out counter yet still want to "verify"

Never had that problem at Target. The only places that check receipts that I know of are Comp USA and Best Buy.

Our target out here doesn do that.(that i know of)

Every Target in the Metro Detroit area that i have been to has security "guards" in front on top of the metal detector things.

Your target has metal detectors?! :Q

im about as anonymous as it gets.
but those bastards at best buy really boil my oil.
between the aggresive customer service, the harrasment of extended warranties and gestapo door tactics...i just steer clear of best buy.
the principle is i as most shop for a pleasant experience, a distraction.

My wife has a bluetooth cell phone that ALWAYS sets off alarms in places that have old outdated systems. Then we have to spend 10 minutes of our lives explaining that it is her cell phone (them looking at us the whole time with the "ya right you stole something look") and when they find out that they were wrong do they even say sorry? NO!

One time I litterally took her phone walked through and the alarm went off. I set it on the other side and walked back through and it didn't, and this wasn't enough for the idiot greater to get it that we didn't steal anything. Everytime we have to spend a huge amount of time leaving the store if she forgets to leave the phone in the car.

Might be time to leave the cell phone in the car if it's causing such a problem for you and the people that work at the store. It will save time for you and the employees.

I would walk in and out of the store a few dozen times with it just to piss them off.

I was going to ask what Traget stops people for that but the Detroit part sums that up. The targets here do nothing of the such unless the beeper goes off and even then the security guy just tells them to keep going as they watch the lines pretty good and don;t harress people.

Also at Wal-mart when I worked there a LONG time ago. We were told that even if the door buzzer goes off do not chase or stop them as it would not hold up in court.
Same should go at Best-buy as well. So you don;t have to stop and if they call the police juts ask the police to file a report or put it on record. Then press charges against the person that filled a false report. I was told a store manager lost their job at wally-world for telling cops someoen stole something and turned out theye did not. So I have been told first hand to only ask and if they say no let them go.

Yes, I agree you you about Best Buy. It's not the checking of receipts that I have a problem with. It's the aggressive sales of warranties that bothers me. And for that reason, I rarely shop there.

Inetead of making a scene, I simply don't shop there. I have other options. I'm not one of those people who will shop at Wal-Mart because of their cheap prices and go home and b!tch and complain about the long lines, or the poor service, etc. I simply pay a little bit more and shop at Target.

Im not sure if you are obligated to, but I let them anyways if they ask. I have nothing to hide, and I understand tat they are trying to prevent theft. My local Comp USA does it.

Guilty until proven innocent?

The same argument could used against the scanners at the doors.

i'm sure someone here has worked at Best Buy. what's their standard operating procedure? i can't imagine they would risk lawsuits, by telling their employees to lay a hand on customers who refuse to show them a receipt.

anyone?

I always stop too. It only takes about 5 seconds, so no big deal to me. Plus, I'd say they only stop me maybe 1 out of 5 times that I purchase something. I've also found that if you are in one of the checkout lines closest to the door they are less likely to stop you since they usually saw you pay.

she said metro Detroit, not the city of Detroit. metro Detroit includes some of the most affluent cities in the U.S.

anyways, i've seen many Targets (and just about every other retail store) have those detectors you walk through that picks up the little anti-theft sticker things. i don't see how this is surprising.

Those people that you notice in public that seem to have a problem with everything, and then you turn to your significant other and you both roll your eyes thinking "some people are just unhappy people in general."

I think many of you would fall into this category.

No... METRO detroit simply means cities out of detroit.
We live in one of the most expensive counties in the courtry. when you bolded Detroit, you are thinking ghetto... but you are very wrong.
