Are YOU in any way affected by the situation in Ukraine?

Directly, or indirectly. Know some one, work with someone, deal with a company or provider, buy or sell something from/to there?

I've only seen a header on the UPS site until recently. But this guy does desktop widgets for Windows. I was having a problem with something and went there to see about updates and I see this message:

"Unfortunately, with constant air raids and missile strikes on my city (I live in Ukraine), the work is proceeding extremely slowly and I have no confidence that it will ever be completed. Thanks for understanding."

I don't really care about my minor widget problem.

Indirect impact: my figure skating teacher is Ukrainian and is deeply troubled by the war.

Direct impact: keeping the war in Ukraine has kept Putin weak and thus he isn't going after the US.

Yes, my grand parents came from Ukraine back in the late 1920's. I still have relatives there.

Between Ukraine, and January 6th, I now understand the importance of Democracy, and freedom. It has taught me that its absolutely imperative to insure its continuation, and that it's worth fighting for. Democracy is a bit fragile and it not something that is given, it is earned.

yes moved to a new office in January, one of our other floormates is a doctor's office - Ukrainian. Their secretary/nanny is a Ukrainian refugee and we chat often. Her ex husband is still there and she has a property there too. So it's been an interesting person to talk to about all the things, but also about Ukraine.

@Dr. Detroit - gas is a weird commodity since it's traded internationally. Well, oil is. For gasoline, I know we have a couple of markets like RBOB but not sure how int'l they are.

After the shale oil boom started, I'm reasonably sure that we became the largest oil exporter. But the Saudis are back to number one. I did notice however that in 2022 we had exports of about 1M b/d.

@MrSquished - you know you could also be Mrs Quished. Sort of an odd surname though.

Anyway, getting to see things from such a radically different perspective is truly priceless. Congrats.

Please tell me that's an Onion-style site...
I don't know if the additional context helps any, she was asked if America can afford another war, she said "absolutely" and followed with: "America can certainly afford to stand with Israel and to support Israel's military needs and we also can and must support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia." If if you're into the whole "nuance" thing, Israel versus Palestine, with the military forces Israel already has on hand, compared with Ukraine versus Russia, it's not exactly the same sort of scenario, you know?
