Are you guys telling me the new entry level Nikon is better than the new entry level Canon?

What models and what crown are you talking about?

Are you having feelings of sadness about it? Do you want someone to talk to?

Well it didnt loose the crown but it did lose it.

Also, I prefer Sony for entry-level cameras anyway, so to some of us the whole Canon/Nikon debate is pointless.

Beats me. I bought the Nikon S4 and have been underwhelmed by the picture quality - too much compression and colors are off. A great letdown after using the 990 for years.

Oh no.
I am looking for concise detailed reasons on how they differ, and why one would be better than the other.

I'm a pretty big Canon fanboy, but the ergonomics of the lower Nikon digital SLR models are pretty clearly superior to Canon's equivalent models.

I prefer Canon's lens lineup to Nikon's though. But you can always find a line with any manufacturer that'll do the jaerb for you.

I love that Tameron 2.8 zoom lense, and it can be had for either camera.

How exactly are the ergonomics better?
I think that would be a close race if subtle ergonomics are the only think seperating them.

Interesting point but are we really ready to call a low end digital SLR entry-level?

Or were you just making a general point about Canon vs Nikon?

Qft. Nothing substitutes a good test drive - it's the only reason I'll go into a Best Buy these days...

I love Best Buy. They have all the newest stuff.

I walk in, play with everything, write down the model numbers, and find it online for half price! :)

Actually, sometimes less. I just got a sony camcorder. The salesman wanted me to spend 150 bones on a NP-90 battery. I went to my favorite website and got it for 41 bucks minus 40% with a coupon. (Special that week.)
So it was about 24 or 25 bucks I think.
I suspect Best Buy probably pays more than 25 for wholesale.

Nothing subtle about the difference in ergonomics between the D50 and the 350D based on my real world experience. The Canon was small, cramped, and the viewfinder was plain nasty, imho. The D50 felt far more comfortable and natural to hold and use...

All imho of course.

I used someone's D70 recently and greatly prefer the ergonomics of the Canon Rebel XT. I don't know how the D70 differs from the D50 but I found the D70 unintuitive and too bulky. I did like the weight of it, but the buttons did not seem naturally positioned to me. I don't think I have unusually small hands or anything either.

Aside from ergonomic preference, I don't think you can go wrong either way.
