Are you good at military flight sims?

So I decided to load up Lock On last night and hopped into a F-15 for a little air time. In no time I was being tracked by 2 enemy planes and we all got into an intense dogfight. Through all the twisting and turning one plane crashes into the ground. After more twisting and turning I was finally able to get on the other plane's 6. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you're on their 6 and smile as the other plane struggles to throw you off. Nope, not a chance. After 30 seconds or so of being right on his tail I got bored and popped off a sidewinder and kaboom he's in flames.

I'm not that great at them myself but I still enjoy playing them. I really suck at missile evasion and situational awareness. Flying for 20 minutes to reach your target only to get blasted from the sky by the first enemy missiles sure sucks. WWII sims are a little more forgiving as it takes more hits to down your plane.

thats because they generally don't have heat seeking missiles...

i tried getting into the Sturmovik games but i dunno anymore. i don't want to take the time to actually learn how to fly a plane in real life. i just want to get up in the air and fly and shoot stuff. i don't want to have to worry about fuel mixture and whether this is happening or thats not turned on.

let me worry about speed, altitude, position, and remaining ammo and i'm set.

I think I'd like a good flight sim combat game, if the online servers were populated by decent mature players and not a bunch of asshats like most of the online PvP type games out there :) Not that I know how to fly, I don't.. but it would be fun to learn and actually get involved with that kind of community. What good flight sims of this type are available and what kind of computer do you need to run them well?

Yep, good flight sims these days are almost non-existent. I believe the last one was Falcon 4. There are civilian flight sims but I don't see the fun in flying for hours just to get from one place to another.

If you have a pretty capable pc you should try out Lock On: Modern Air Combat (LOMAC). There are several planes to chose from but most are Russian planes. There is the F-15 and A-10 from the US available too. The graphics still looks excellent for a 3-4yr old game and you can dumb down the settings for a more arcade-ish feel.
