Are you going to think twice about using Kazaa, winMX, etc?

You may be the unfortunate one to be one of the first examples in order to scare people away from using P2P apps.

One thing I don't understand is you never hear of newservers being scrutinized and they always have tons of crap on them.

How can they prove that you are committing electronic theft. I thought the Kazaa protocol was an encrypted one. They can't really start serving the 'bootlegged' music, software, because that will be entrapment wouldn't it? I could be wrong.

I don't use them in the first place because they suck. However, the RIAA is getting a little too anal these days.

They need a shitload of papers (at least here) before they can do that in the first place, so unless you have an anal ISP they don't stand much chance of getting normal users.

Nope.
I need a reason to
A) Go on a mad crazy killing spree taking out corporate moguls
B) Flee the country

THis could very well the perfect opportunity for me. Heck, it might be time to run a Supernode or DC Hub.

I dont think this is going to stop anything, a few will be punished. But just like a wild fire it will keep spreading. Always finding another way..

stuff like this usually backfires. Remember when Metallica banned people from napster? It was in the news and more and more people heard about it so they started using it. I assume more and more people will start using kazaa, morpheus...

eventually what will happen, which is the same thing that happened with alot of the irc area's, is that they will shut down the keyholders, and the gatekeepers, which are the upper level management, which sends a trickle effect to all of us cutting off the sources. I would venture to say that 65% of all pirated music is done through people who know nothing more than logging into kazaa, getting raped with banner ads, and downloading a couple songs a week. If and when kazaa gets shut, as well as others, then those people are not out of the hole.

Its times like this, that i'm glad i can stock up a source pile of goods so that if and when they close the doors, i'll have basically what i need. Perhaps we can see a cost decrease on software titles that are WAY to much money, after they shut down the majors.
