Are you even trying anymore, Philadelphia?

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...nking_beer_at_philadelphia_phillies_game.html

The city that booed Santa Claus can now add another dubious distinction to its rap sheet.

A young Phillies fan was caught allegedly drinking beer in the stands on Sunday during the Phillies' loss to the Padres. The video surfaced on Monday, and according to TheFightins.com, the young child drank the beer at least twice.

Though it is unclear if beer was in the bottle, the young boy is seen wearing a home Phillies jersey. This can be added to the litany of curious misdeeds in Philadelphia fans sports history.

This has been an interesting season at the home of the defending National League champs. A Phillies fan was charged with aggravated assault after intentionally vomiting on the 11-year-old daughter of an off-duty cop. On May 3, a Phillies fan who ran on the field was Tasered and subdued by security.

Eagles fans also cheered when Michael Irvin lay motionless on turf at Veteran's Stadium in October 1999 with a neck injury. Irvin was carted off on a stretcher.

I searched so hopefully it isn't an R.

Philly is quickly becoming worse than Detroit and Jersey :p

Shame on me; my kids used to take a swig from mine when they were toddlers.

As I first read the thread I was ready to say, "Oh, come on, someone underage drinking at a ballpark is a big deal?" Then I saw the pic. Lawlz. Of course, I probably tried my first beer somewhere around that age and I hated it. Though, that was in private. :p

lol who the fuck cares

[besides the puritans, hardcore family values groups, and followers of MADD]

I probably took a few swigs when young at a baseball game. Not that I can recall, I've taken a few swigs when I asked "can I take a sip?" at various points in my youth. Not one can I specifically recall, nor care about.
And nor would I care, and do the same whenever I am a parent. I just don't care.
Our country has made such a mess of the whole question of drinking and age, of course some find this offensive. In Europe, this article wouldn't even exist.

A French family visiting America was having dinner together in an upscale restaurant. The father ordered a glass of wine for his 16 year old son. The waiter told him he couldn't.

The father, confused, said, "But I'm his father."

So, in this one instance, which country allows more personal freedom, France or America?

In this one instance, which country sticks its intrusive, personal freedom denying, nanny-state snout into a family's personal business more, France or America?

In that one instance above
, that is.

Now, in this Phillies ballpark video, the kid is much younger, true.

So, tell me, Mr. Manly Defender of Freedom with a side of Freedom Fries to go, at what age are you OK with the STATE telling a father he can't allow his own son to have a couple of swigs on his beer or a glass of wine in an upscale restaurant?

Remember, psychological studies consistently show that introducing alcohol in responsibly small amounts under adult supervision tends to remove the ZOMG allure of it and leads to LESS destructive and dangerous binge drinking later on.

This video may not necessarily be portraying that (introducing alcohol in responsibly small amounts under adult supervision), though.

This guy in the video may just be getting his young son drunk so he can ah heck him in the men's room during the seventh inning stretch, it's true, we don't know. D:

Or, he may just be a slacker who doesn't even know his son is not only stealing his beer but has already stolen his car keys and intends to drive them home, incredibly underage and amazingly, on less than 1/4 of a beer, drunk. :hmm:

It's just a short video, taken out of context, and without knowing, we ALL see what we want to see.

But mostly what I see is just another opportunity for ZOMG FAUX OUTRAGE from a large group of willing and eager "freedom" and "small government" hypocrites.

I also looked to see if the liquid flowed from one end of the bottle to the other in that sunlight and I couldn't see any... perhaps it was empty and he's just mimicking (sp?) his dad. He looks young enough to like doing that.

I wish you all could have been there when the Phillies won the World Series. If you think you know Philly sports fans, you don't. :p
