Wait for it......wait for iiittt......
(you'll see)
I've saved resources most of my life. I use CFLs wherever they're practical - places where the lights will be on a long time. Places like storage rooms and closets get incandescents, because they're only on for a few minutes at most, and usually only for several seconds.
My living room uses "bulbs" like
these. Lots of light for not so much power. If it was my building, I'd just install fixtures for T8 fluorescent tubes. The livingroom doesn't have
any permanent lighting, for whatever reason. It's all provided by floor lamps.
I turn off lights when I'm not using the room, and my PC stays off when I'm not home or awake. I
do have an ancient washing machine (older than me) but that's because it's my landlord's, not mine. No dishwasher, though I'd
love to have one. I do sometimes leave the water run while I'm brushing my teeth, but that's only to get the hot water flowing to that end of the apartment so I can take a shower. I also use reusable bags for shopping. My mom makes very nice tote bags out of old clothing. These things are strong, and can hold at least as much as a paper grocery bag. I also get the family discount - free.
