Are you content with mediocrity?

I'm really not, it disappoints me greatly to be mediocre in a lot of things.

And that would be fine if that were the cause behind the driving force behind my attempt to strive to higher levels, but I'm incredibly lazy and apathetic as well.

So I'm pretty much stuck in this state of mediocrity without any sort of drive to push myself above it, which means neffing in the wee hours of the night on ATOT..

Define mediocrity any way you wish in this poll (whether it be career, social life, grades/school, etc.), I'm just too lazy to expand on it.

Yup. Learning to be content with what you have is the only real way to achieve lasting happiness.

I'm having a very hard time dealing with mediocrity. I'm learning to slowly deal with it but I know it's going to take a very long time to fully get through.

i accept the fact that i will be mediocre with certain things, but that does not mean i will just deal with it.

I feel we are here to learn the most and do the best we can with life and experience as much as we can.
If i feel i am only "ok" in certain things, and that bothers me, well, i will find out how to change it, not for anyone else but just for me.

heh, i was just thinking of this earlier.
i'm not really good at anything and it really pisses me off.

i know a lot about computers but not the stuff that people actually need to know or need me to know. i guess i'm more of a generalist than a specialist at stuff.
i think i have great ideas for stuff, but don't know how to express them.
i'm ok at video games, but not really good

I remember where I heard this now...it was on a list of things found on people's job reviews:

Some other ones I remember were:

He hit rock bottom and then started digging.
The gate is down and the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming.
He has two brains. One is lost and the second one is out looking for the other one.
He has delusions of adequacy.
He slipped into the gene pool when the lifeguard wasn't watching.

I'm happy to be mediocre - especially since it seems that so many are below.

I refer to the late Phil Hartman in his role as Bill McNeil on News Radio
Dave: "Bill McNeil is ...adequate... I'm sorry Bill."
Bill: "Sorry? Sorry, you weren't singled out and deemed adequate?"

"...After all adequacy is the hallmark of great journalism."

"What is adequate journalism if not great journalism?"

"We'll finish this later, after I fulfill my duties with my customary adequaucivity."

"It's one thing, of course, to know you're adequate, but, to have a fellow member of the press stand up and say 'Yes, you sir are adequate,' Let me tell you it is a very special feeling."

"Well, I'm off to astonish the world with more feats of adequataqaticism."

Dave: "Everything going adequately?"
Bill: "Very adequately sir, I'm virtually bursting with adequatulence."

"...Ok, look, you think I don't know adequate sucks."

You have the capability to excel and be interested in certain things, mediocre in others. Not a bad thing, just work harder.

I think you are being pessamistic if you view yourself as mediocre. Of course people are going to be better than us at most things, but we each excell in one area or another.

The difference that you are describing is the unwillingness to take risks. It's comfortable to be mediocre, but scary/risky to excell. You can either be an astronomer, or you can be an astronaut... it's your choice :)

^quote from Jurassic Park III :p see it wasn't all bad

my job = my mediocrity. I hate it and it makes me feel brainless.

but that will change soon.

It'd be nice to have an option for 'Above average with potential to excel, but mediocrity is easier. (F it)'
