well, anything goes, hence my earlier comment.

However, guns exist to kill and maim, so i don't think we need them in modern society.

Guns are also useful for other purposes.

It can not operate on its own; it needs a person to control it.

Why not outlaw the person that is using flawed judgment?

A car can kill and maim; why not get rid of cars.
More people are killed by cars than by a gun.

Hahahhahaha. Equating guns to cars. What a dipshit argument.

My guns don't exist to kill and maim. Mine exist to shoot trap with friends and target shoot baby oranges at 200 yards. Never been used for any other purpose and likely never will.

I do not need to be armed. I have a right to be armed, but not a necessity to be armed. I simply do not go to war zones.

i worked for a whole month in a brazillian slum, with drugdealers, robbers and gangs all around...
the drugdealers hanged dogs that barked at them in a streetlamp there

all that without police, guns and a small group of 4 people... we had to enter in theyr homes for a house inspection

so.... silly Texas guy, please surprise me

Didn't realize I was talking to you, oh I wasn't. Of course your story, which appears to be lacking some details, has nothing to do with anything. Silly little who gives a shit where you're from guy.

Yeah.... and cars are weapons.... I don't see why people need to own something designed to kill or maim.

Always armed, period. USP 40, PF9, Sog blade, always have two or more of the above.

Hey! That was Cousin Marty!

Here it's coons. I don't really mind them or the possums eating the cat food, even in the garage, but our neighbor feeds the coons and they've lost all fear of humans, so they chase the cats, crap all over the garage, attempt to live in the garage, attempt to come in the house, chase my wife, and attempted to chase me until introduced to my 18" souvenir baseball bat.

'Coons can be nasty little bastards once they don't fear people.

On the surface of it, I'd say he's a guy with a gun and you're a guy without one. That means he can tell you what to do, and you can't do anything about it. And that's the underlying principle of the entire gun control argument: An armed man is a free man, an unarmed man lives or dies at the whim of the armed man.

Maybe in fucking Thunderdome. Might doesn't make right in civilized society. In reality, an armed man sometimes has the ability to kill someone for threatening him, which is situationally useful, but also has a non-negatable chance of killing or maiming someone who in no way deserves it - a loved one, a bystander, someone being a dick and enraging him but not actually threatening his life, etc. It's perfectly legitimate to disagree about where the best balance lies given the facts on the ground, but this reasoning is infantile.

Just because you rely on other people (police, military, security) to conduct violence on your behalf doesn't make it any less true or necessary. You're living in a fantasy world if you think anything but the threat of violence keeps you safe from people who want your stuff every day of your life.

I don't understand so many posts saying things like "I don't go to vacations in war zones" etc.

This thread is about road trips. You break down on the Interstate or road, you never know what you're going to run into. Same if you get off on the wrong exit or get lost.

It's called preparing for the worst, not purposely planning to find it.

Damn right they are! Kudos to werepossum for going melee with those fuckers. lol

Btw werepossum - there are much easier things to use than 18" pieces of wood! You seriously need to upgrade!

Edit: And I'm not talking guns, I'm sure you don't want to always be making a mess on your driveway or bouncing shot into your garage and it's contents. Paintball gun will do the trick. They get to live, and you don't have to break out the hose or get rabies shots after a bad encounter.

This is 100% truth. The only reason pacifist can even exist is because someone else is willing to visit violence on those that would snatch the life right out of that pacifist for the dollar in their wallet.

Because the anti-gun nutjobs can't comprehend the big picture, they are stuck on emotion setting and reality doesn't enter into their equation.
