I consider myself an over-thinker. I'll analyze things from as many angles as my mind can uncover, or create.

When it's something along the lines of my own career or personal life, I'll think until I basically go insane if it's important to me.

Anyone else tend to over think? Have you found a way to surpress it?

Put your hand on your sack and remind yourself that you aren't a woman, then go get drunk and watch a football game.

Should fix that problem right up.

My best friend is that way. Hence the term "Technical Bastard" :)

Nothing wrong with it, we just give him crap about it sometimes.

I over think EVERYTHING. That is my problem. I will get in a relationship with a female..... then tear myself apart asking if it is the right thing to do. Asking what other people will think about us, if I would marry her, what she is thinking.... and so on.

When it comes to buying something new, I will read every review I can find online.... then find the best money/quality combo, then think aout fro another month then buy it.

I over analyze stuff waaaaay too much.

Yep. You know what sucks is when you spend too much time thinking about what you should be doing next, and then you don't get anything done. Spinning your wheels.

I've been working on breaking myself of the productivity issue. I find that when i'm at restaraunts that most of the time when the food comes I wish i had decided on something else though.

I definitely am...it's so bad. Especially when it comes to people and my relationships with them. I can't help but doubt and question EVERYONE's motives and intentions towards me. It's gotten me in so much trouble b/c people just don't understand how untrusting I am and they get mad or frustrated. Sigh..I need help.

Definately, everything that's said or done look at waaaay to much and read to much into it. It's not always the best thing, and sometimes people get annoyed with constantly having to say everything's fine.

Yes.

If I have to make a decision, it is incredibly hard without a compelling reason. For example, the guys at work always make fun of the car that I drive. I have been through the car buying experience twice on my own in my life, and it literally keeps me up at night trying to decide what to buy. So I will not buy a new car just because of this.

Just this week I was looking for a flat panel monitor for my wife, so we can give her 15" CRT to her sister. It was so hard to choose which one to buy. Then it was bad deciding how much money to spend or not spend. Is it really worth the money? (no!) Oh man it was bad.

I'd say that's more paranoia and insecurity than being analytical. :)

I do this too; my problem though is that I tend to overthink simple stuff. Read too much into the directions / an assignment. Make things much harder than they actually are. Then somebody comes along and points the answer out after, oh, five seconds or so.

That's me all over. It kind of sucks but it also has its pros. I think of it as a gift and I appreciate it.

I'm an over-thinker in most regards, yeah, but if it's something creative or non-personal, I'll usually "figure it out" or decide one way or another rather immediately. My personal life tho...oy, that's where my problem lies. It's been 3 months since my breakup, and I'm still thinking about this and that every day...haven't found an acceptable new girl to take up my time, so I haven't anything else to do. Hopefully my plans this weekend change some of that tho. :)

I overthink a lot. This tends to stem from an excessive amount of adrenalin that I have in me. However, working it off from time to time tends to keep my thoughts more focused so I don't over-think as much.

Some suggestions:

- Exercise (walking, etc.)
- Punching bag (to consume extra adrenalin)
- Reading - as a distraction
- Simplifying your life (scaling back some plans so they are set at a realistic level.)

Finally, you could look for a way to really use this energy in a positive manner. Finding a position that is very challenging, muli-tasking, etc. - will be a great way to turn you skill of being an over-thinker into a positive asset for a company. :)
