Are you an organ donor?

I've thought about becoming an organ donor, but my one fear has been the fact that, in the past, I've been told that hospitals won't try as hard to save you, etc. if you're an organ donor. Is this just a misleading rumor?

Since I'm going to be taken up in the rapture I won't be leaving anything behind. Besides, I wouldn't want my organs going to a bunch of sinners.

If I'm that far gone, I don't want to come back.

Plus, what happens when I'm dead don't mean shit to me. Pillage to your hearts content.

As far as the rumors go, look at it this way, hospitals make their money trying to keep folks alive. The more they torture you, the more they make. Having a breathing corpse to beat upon with is far more lucrative than the potential of a possible organ transplant down the road. So don't worry about being an organ donor getting in the way of end-of-life abuse by doctors.

Is it true that if you're an organ donor, you get priority over non-organ donors when should you need an organ?

Poll, and yes.

As far as hospitals being less motivated to save your broken ass, I seriously doubt that as the liability for all staff members involved would seem far to intimidating for such practice to become routine across the US healthcare system. In fact I see it as a really childish and selfish excuse not to donate somewhere along the lines of "I want to drive a giant ass car so other people get messed up in a wreck more than my family or I do."

That's utterly ridiculous, since they don't go checking if you're an organ donor when you get wheeled through the ambulance bay.

I'm an organ donor. If I drop dead, I don't need my organs, let someone else use them and save a few lives.

I wasn't because I had never been offered it my two times getting a license, and forgot to ask. I just registered because of this thread. So very possibly ATOT is saving lives, if I get hit by a bus or something.

Yeah, I wanna do it, too. How do I? Just contact my DMV?

Depends on the state. In NY, you sign the back of your license and you're supposed to register with the NYS Organ Donor registry.

In AL, we just have a box checked at the DMV when we get our license. That is about it.

On another note, there was a postsecret card sent in, supposedly by a police officer, saying that he/she decided whether or not to give a warning/ticket by seeing if they signed up to be an organ dnor. Interesting...

I would not do it while alive for fears of complications, but once I'm dead I don't really care what they use my body for, if it's good for whoever's alive and in need.

Yes, I am. Having received not one but TWO donations it would more than slightly selfish of me not to be.

I can attest to the life-changing potential, I am forever grateful for the two people that elected to give me back my sight.
