Are you ambitious?

Are you ambitious? If no, why? I find a lot of people on these boards are very compacent about their current status, they compare themselves to the general public and work to only reach a level of normalcy. many of you who do this also complain that you want more or you deserver more or others deserve less.

Why don't you do something about it?

Very much so, yes. A lot of people just like to make excuses for themselves. Everyone needs a reference point to qualify their success, and if their reference point is normalcy then they lack the intrinsic motivation to push further.

I only selected the no option because it was the default and I was too lazy to change it.

Well, my personal goals are very ambitious but my financial goals are not.. My dream is to direct movies, drive a maxima and own a nice 1 family house.... So, yeah, I'm ambitious and work my ass off to achieve things but my financial goals are pretty normal. I'm also far from ambitious as far as school work goes...

i used to be, but college had ruined my ambitions by making me work so hard and just getting a C for a grade. I am still ambitious, but not a smuch as i used to be.

Yes...I am.

Very much so.

I am very ambitious with what I want to achieve. I work hard and I will get my goals.

But with money I am 'not so bothered'. As long as I have enough and have a house, nice car, nice stuff in the house and general stuff I am content.

I suppose I am more ambitious with my atheltical performance then money as it makes me feel happy when I achieve something. But I also don't want to be poor!

You don't have to seek monetary gain in order to be ambitious of course. The apathy of many people is not with respect to their financial situation, but their intellectual stagnation as well.

I think many people are worried about status and money. I think they forget there are many things worth pursuing beyond wealth. In that sense I am ambitious.

If you define ambition as wanting a bigger car, or a house that will impress the Jonses, I am a slug.

I do well enough, and I can always make more money. I can never make more time, nor will a paycheck substitute for my presence with my children.

I have more important things to worry about besides ambition.

OTH, I don't get on here and bitch about my wallet. Perhaps that excludes me from your poll.

True, but society often considers lawyers/bankers/doctors "ambitious" based on their paycheck.. Our society as a whole has gotten apathetic and complacent - I've noticed this while working with people our age (early 20s). It's sickening and I hope something forces us to change our ways...

i'm not very ambitious. i do want my family to have anything they desire tho, so i work very hard.

btw, if you are really ambitious, starting your own business is really the best way to go.

just to be clear on my end, i dont consider ambition to have to be about money, it can for some people but it may not for others. it can be about anything you really have a drive to accomplish.

I used to be. I found the whole thing quite hollow and unfufilling after awhile. John Lennon once said "Life is what happens while you're busy
making other plans."

I selected No, though some would, perhaps disagree.

I have already lived in several different economic strata. None are better or worse than the others, IMO, It's what you make of it.

My relationship's are what I pour the lion's share of my energies into. At work I'm quite happy to do what I'm told, I don't particularly look for advancement so in that sense I am not ambitious, that being said I do not shirk, nor do I hold any illusions about what I'm due.

Yep, it is sickening. As time goes one, employers, government, parents, health care, etc etc etc. seem to care more about money, power, and fame and less about people, community, family, and integrity. It's easy to not give a crap about anything when your surroundings don't seem to give a crap about you.

I used to be superambitious and care a lot about certain things. Then, in 2002, I nearly died. Almost losing your life really puts things into perspective. I'm no longer "ambitious" in the way most people would define it. I just live to enjoy life.
