Are you addicted to overclocking?

I find myself tweaking little things in the bios trying to get any little MHZ increase. Change the multiplier, up the FSB, nudge up the voltage... I'm not sure I even care if my system performs better. I just want more MHZ! Do others overclock so that their computers will help them perform tasks better, or do you just love the thrill of getting more and more speed?

<slight apology>
Sorry if this is a little OT ;)

I just overclock because I can get 850MHz for the price of 566MHz.

Well,

in just plain old english and very short: YES

I tweaked my k6-2 to a point where I got the idea that I couldn't go any further, or I would have to start using watercooling, or better stuff.

My athlon on the other hand is completely non-overclocked.
The only reason why that is, is because I still haven't taken the trouble to get myself a GFD,
and since my mobo is completely jumperless, and the bios is not suited for changing FSB,
I'll have to wait till I either get a new mobo, or get a GFD.

And ofcourse all my videocards are overclocked too.
My v3800 is once again running at 170/200 which is pretty nice.
And my voodoo3 in my k6-2 system is overclocked by means of that the pci bus is running 40Mhz, but haven't overclocked the chip itself tho.

Yes, had an Athlon classic for six months & didn't O/C - thought I was going to go insane. Now have the Duron & life is good.

I was looking at Pricewatch and found that a 933 P3 costs close to $400 shipped, and I got my Duron 600 for $75 shipped and its running at 936! Pretty cool... :)

<< Are you addicted to overclocking? >>

In short:Hell yeah
I know bumping up even a mere 5mhz wont make a tad of differnce in performance, but I got milk it for all its worth

<< Are you addicted to Anandtech >>

Not yet...I have way too much work do with my classes and all..but believe me if Im not in class or with my gf then most likely youll find me in front of the comp with Anandtech on the screen. :)

heck yes, i'm always buying new processors just to see if how far they'll overclock! Then i went out and bought a kryotech renegade to make sure i get really good cooling... talk about a hobby that can burn a hole in your pocket real quick!

Not as much.

I was when I had a Celery 300A and I did tons of tweaking to get it to hit 504 at 2.0 V. Eventually, I bumped it down to 464 @ 1.90V rock stable.

When I grabbed a Celery 466, I could oc it 525 on the BX-6 Rev. 2. I bought P3B-F and was able to get 583, but no more than that considering I was hitting the limit of the Deschutes core.

Right now I have a Celery 566 oc'd 850 @ 1.65V on a BF-F. I could oc my GF2 MX board, but I believe in the old skool of just oc'ing the CPU.

I probably won't oc my next system though. It's going to be either an Amd Duron or Thunderbird. That 1 Gig T-Bird sure looks nice at that price.

overclocking is only addictive once in a while. but tweaking the last drop out of software (by design) or os' has been the nature of me ever since, i started with a trs-80 level 1 with 4k, you had the pimp to get any performance out of that (in assembler no less).

Why not??? its better than drugs (uh well lemme think about that...) does this answer the question???

P3 700e @1050mhz 1.65 volts (cost $170 for cpu you do the math...)

Celeron2 533a @1008mhz 1.80 (paid a lot, now not worth squat...)

Its fun, entertaining, frustrating, cheap, costly, divorce making, time consuming and above all FUBAR when it dont work at all...

I just want to hit higher mhz hahaha. I don't really see a difference in speed after 700mhz, but it feels good seeing it post at higher speed than you paid for :p

ya well.. or else i wouldn't have paid $230 just so I can get a chip inorder for me to join the 4 digit club.

I OCed my V3 2000 to 173 before, I oced my celeron2 566 to 935, and I now oced my P!!! 700e to 1001, the only thing that's holding me back is my ram and my Gorb w/ no Artic.

And ya.. my DDR Geforce 1 running at 143/355.. hehe.

When you oc like that it's nolonger about speed, it's about bragging rights =P
