Are you able to compliment the "other side" when he/she/they do something good? Conversely, are you able to say "your side" did something badly?
I don't have a problem saying "hey, xyz did a really good job with this issue", even if xyz is usually on the 'other side'. Partisan hacks can rarely do so without throwing in a backhanded slap or some other snide comment. Something like "hey, after all the stupid things xyz has done, he finally got one right". Conversely, when disagreeing with someone who's usually on "their side", they usually couch it in something like "well, he's usually right, but I don't agree on this issue".
