Yep - I should only be putting in 50-55 hours a week at work, yet I always put in 65+ more hours a week.......

Workaholic? No. I feel I have a great balance in life between family and work. No company, job or career is worth the price of your freedom and sanity. ;)

I work Mon-Fri, 8:00- 18:00.

But on the week end I always end up having to re-build old school computers which are thrown out (from my parents) which looks like I'm doing for free I getting a little pissed off from it

not really.

I like my job, and I don't usually mind staying late if there's work that needs to be done or the next shift is running late, but otherwise, I'm usually out within ~15 minutes of when I'm scheduled to be.

I used to be a workaholic. But then a few things happened. First i got really sick (for some reason my liver started messing up, i gained 75lbs in like a month or so!) and couldn't work. i was just to darn tired to do anything. that took a month or two before i felt like I was strong enough to go back to work.

Then like a year latter my boss quit (fired actually but they let her quit) and i was doing her job. Well they wanted to hire someone and it came down to two of us. The other person got it. She was the head of the departments secretary (rumors of them sleeping together were going on for years). Well they asked me to keep an eye on her. Well the first thing she did was discontinue daily and weekly backups. She figured that we do monthly backups so why waste the time and money? No matter how much i argued with her she refused to start them back up. I got tired of teaching her how to do the job. so i quit.

and i haven't been back to a real job since! its been err 3 1/2 years and i have no plans to start again.

I'm at work now just waiting for my boss to take another heaping sh!t on me over nonsense that no reasonable person would come even close to placing blame for

he sends my department "formated text" to change stuff on our website... unfortunatley, his email client is as old as the internet itself and when he sends... lol "tab" dilineated tables to me over email.... we have confusion....

excerpt from recent email dialog in which I simply asked him to clarify something...

>>>>>IS THIS MORE CLEAR? HERE IS A GOOD EXAMPLE WHERE ONE WHO IS
OPINIONATED ABOUT SOMETHING CAN BE BLINDED BY THE TRUTH.

I work this job full time, take 21 credits and work a second job running my school's residential network (4500 nodes) when nobody is around*. I'm completley burned out and usually get the enviable choice of partying or sleeping.... When I have free time, I seem to simply enjoy staring into space.... I'm swamped with schoolwork and am ready to die.

edit: * between the hours of 4pm and 9am, continuously on call... and those >>>>'s weren't from all of the replies.... he does stuff like that to "draw your attention" around his emails... :rolleyes;

Yeah I'm a workaholic.

The minimum I work is 50hrs a week for a 40hr a week salary job. I'm on-call every 3rd week as well. On busy weeks its not uncommon for a 60hr+ week. I don't really mind though. As long as there are things to do at work I'd rather be at work than at home.

Yes, I am a IT/Telecommunications worker, big surprise.

I'm not a workaholic, but I bet it would be nice to be one--maybe I wouldn't be as far behind on so many projects then. I do work seven days a week, including holidays, and I often go for long stretches on 2-3 hours of sleep per night (but I'm "on call" when I sleep, anyway), but there's just a lot to be done and much of the time it still seems I'm not making much of a dent in it.

Never did do the whole relationship-and-family thing, but that's not just because of work demands, because when things haven't been so busy, no one was interested, so it's not like I'm missing out on much by focusing on work.

On the plus side, even though the last five or six years have basically involved working any time I wasn't sleeping, I don't feel "burned out" or anything like that. I'd rather have the work I do be more rewarding than to have less of it to do.

Workaholic only part of the year.

I work 6-7 days a week 8-10 hours a day from ~ first week of Feb to ~ last week of Sep. including every holiday. Earn a good full years income during that time.

Cool thing is, I can take the other 4 months off completely if I want, but I usually work 1-2 days a week just for some extra cash. :)
