General Game Rules
Please read carefully, some are different from the usual.

  • For this game, death reveals only how the character was killed: gunshot, fire, poison, butchering, etc. Role/side not revealed.
  • Each game day, you can vote to lynch, no lynch, unvote, or no vote as many times as you want.
  • When majority (more than 50%) is reached, day ends immediately. This includes a majority vote for no lynch. This occurs even if I am not around at that moment in the game. Any player should be able to count the visible lynch votes and note a majority.
  • A tied lynch will go until the timed end of day, and will result in 2 deaths.
  • Days will end at 9pm EST, or sooner due to a majority being reached.
  • You may chat in the thread at night, but no lynch votes made at night will count. Exception: if you will be away the following day IRL, you can specify a pre-vote, in this case send the vote to me as a PM.
  • Be active. If you fail to act for 2 days in a row, you will be removed for inactivity. A vote of no vote counts as an act.
  • Do not quote a PM from me to prove a role, real or fake.
  • Do not communicate outside of the game with other players, except as specifically allowed per your role.

Special Rules:

Guillotine - when a player is lynched, they are not immediately killed- they are instead placed on the guillotine, awaiting death. While on the guillotine the character can perform no actions. When the next character is "lynched", the character sitting on the guillotine is killed and the new character is placed under the blade.

Potential roles, subject to change for balance based on total number of players.

MAFIA

Gangster Boss- Each night the gangster boss picks a villager to kill by gunshot. If the boss is killed, this power passes down to the next gangster, etc until all mafia are killed. Has access to chatroom with other mafia roles.

Common Gangster- Has access to chatroom with other mafia roles. If the boss is killed, his power will pass to a common gangster.

Drug Dealer- Each even night, the drug dealer picks a villager. That villager becomes addicted, and will appear as a criminal to the Cop. If the doctor "saves" an addicted character the addiction is detected but not cured.

Mafia Grandma- Each night, the grandma picks a villager, that villager receives a wonderful apple pie. Oops, the pie tasted a little funny. The picked villager will die from poison the following night if not saved by the doctor during the day.

Mafia Gambler- You play poker with the poker player villagers. They don't know you are mafia. You have access to the mafia chat and the poker chat.

GOOD VILLAGERS

Doctor- Each DAY, you can pick a player to attend to. If the character is poisoned you cure them, and if the character is addicted to drugs you identify this fact. Further, you may publicly announce the drug test results anonymously through the GM. Once per game, you can survive any non-lynch death.

Prostitute- Each night, the prostitute picks a character to lay with. If the character is a MAFIA character, the prostitute is killed, otherwise nothing special happens.

Cop- Each night, the cop can investigate a character. MAFIA characters are identified as criminals, as are any characters addicted to drugs. The cop's investigation always occurs last during the night, after any other night activities. Alternatively, the cop can choose to kill a character by gunshot. If the cop kills a character, he can't investigate in the same night.

Jailer- Each night, the jailer can jail a character. This is always the first night action. The jailed character can not perform any night action, and any night action targeting the jailed character fails. You may jail the same character as many times in a row as you want. You may not jail yourself.

Poker Player (2+)- You play poker each night with the other poker players, one of which seems to dress in gangster attire. You have a chat room. Note: this doesn’t affect other night actions, you can still get targeted before or after your poker game.

Eager Lyncher- Once per game, during the day, you can immediately call for a lynch based on the current votes, but only if at least one other character has voted. Note: this can’t switch the mayor vote into a lynch, the first lynch occurs on day 2. (Example: Fred has 2 votes to lynch, Bob has 1 vote to lynch- if you use your power, Fred is immediately lynched and the day ends.)

Talented Illusionist- After you are killed by any means except poison, you return to the game in two days following (if the game isn't over). You can only perform this illusion once.

Tough Old Man- You can survive one day after being gunshot or butchered. If the doctor attends to you, you will be fine, otherwise you die at the end of that day. You can't remember who tried to kill you, unfortunately.

Vagrant Youth- Once per game, you can stay up at night and you will see all characters who visit other characters. If you are investigated during the night you use your power, the cop identifies you as a criminal. You are supposed to be in bed you little punk! Other than investigation or jail, you are immune to all other night actions when you stay up all night.

Grave Digger- When a character is killed, you learn that character's exact role and side.

Medical Examiner- When a character is killed, you learn that character's exact role and side. Once each DAY, a dead character's role can be anonymously announced by the GM if you choose (PM me).

Fire Fighter- Each DAY, you can pick one character and put out any fire on that character, and make that character immune to fire the for the following night. Once per game, you can survive any non-lynching death. Fire Fighters are tough!

SPECIAL

Axe-Murderer- The ATM wants you to feed it a cat. Starting on the second night, the psychopath picks a villager to butcher each night. The psychopath wins only if he is the last player alive. If the cop investigates you, you butcher him!

Bomber- Each night, you can choose 2 characters to bomb, bombs have no immediate effect. Once, during the DAY, you can choose to set-off all bombs at once, killing all previously bombed characters.

Pyromaniac- Starting on the second night, you can light two characters on fire each night. They burn to death if they are not put out by the Firefighter on the following day. You win if six or more characters die in a single day/night cycle, or if you are the last character alive.

Then if your sleep schedule matches that you'll miss the majority of day or night. Not sure what the best way is.
I'm probably the only person here who sleeps more than 7 hours. Anyway isn't that how we normally do it with the werewolf games? I know we had some abbreviated cycles but days normally lasted 24 hours and nights 12.

I kind of like the faster pace so when you're dead early you don't have to wait a week to do something again.

Passing on this one. Days that end with a majority make it way too easy to miss an entire day.

I understand. The intention is that reaching a majority is entirely up to the players, I'm hoping the good villagers realize the danger in reaching a majority and will unvote in cases where it looks like majority will be reached too fast, before everyone has had input... but we'll see.

How about a compromise. Day cycle could end quickly, but night is set in stone?

That makes sense, if you mean days always begins at the same time. What would be a fair time? Noon? 10AM? 3PM?

To offer some further clarification, I really like a few aspects of the "day ends at majority" rule. For one, it can be a very strong test of a player's allegiance- if someone is 1 vote away from being lynched and someone is actively abstaining from voting for that character, that is a strong indicator that the abstainer isn't mafia/evil if the lynched character is village. In a "minimum length day" sort of setup, the mafia could well vote his buddy into majority with the expectation that he can change his vote later near the end of the day.

Also, if I use the bomber role, the role is neutralized by a quick lynch, if there is a minimum day length and it can see the lynch coming, the bomber player will certainly choose to detonate all the bombs.
