Ok, we have a new political ideology in America and its called Neo-conservatism.
I was wondering how many people identify themselves as Neo-cons.
Since many neo-cons belong to the Republican party I am asking you to choose your political ideology, not your political party.
If you consider yourself independent or have a completely different ideology (ex. Communist, Fascist) please choose the answer that is closest to yours.

Yes, insufficient range. Those of us who hate ourselves, that is to say those who are incapable of seeing who we really are rather than just who we imagine and wish we were, unconsciously manifest aspects across all spectra. We are all things because we become what we fear. and magnetized by what we hate.

So you want that option added to the poll?

I'm a libertarian but that is not an option so I put conservative (old school conservative).

I'd have to go with libertarian as well...

note: this thread is obviously slanted to make democrats look/feel good as the many varieties of democrats are not included, and neither are the ACP, Green Party or Jews for Jesus...

I think the poll should have :Neo Con, Republican, Moderate, Democrat, Lying Democrat, Stupid Democrat, American Socialist, American Communist, Communist, Idealist, Green Party, Canadian, Terrorist, Canadian Terrorist, Alien, Jews for Jesus, and Undecided

The more interesting question would be: Who actually knows what neo-conservatism is? I'm guessing the OP doesn't since he referred to it as "new" and its not particularly new.

Seems most people just use it as a general epithet for anyone conservativish that they don't like.

Well I'm a libertarian which is similar to classical liberalism...that still wouldn't put me as a Democrat, however. So you can take your poll and shove it.

Yep. I am a Classical Liberal. That means I'm enlightened enough to defend the rights and freedoms of everyone, even my ideological opposites. No public good is more sacred than the rights of a single individual; human beings are not eggs to be made into omelettes; no means can be justified by any end, as means are ends unto themselves. Jefferson, the founder of the Democratic party, was a classical liberal and, up until about FDR, classical liberals all voted democrat, which is why democrats today call themselves liberals even though they no longer are. So I typically vote democrat, although I am strong in my criticism of the authoritarian socialist direction the party is currently headed in.

Neo-conservativism is NOT new. It has been around at least since the '50s, although the label itself is only about 2 or so decades old. Originally, it referred to those elements in the Democratic party, particularly Jewish, who were strongly anti-communist, pro-military, and pro-Israel.

I think more to the point, the group that today identifies itself as "neo-conservative", i.e., those who tend to associate themselves with the PNAC doctrine, have little in common with the original, "classic" neo-conservatives. They also bear scant resemblance to classic conservatives, which is why I've always considered "neo-conservative" a misnomer for their ideology. They are neither neo-conservative nor conservative.

Republicans: Rich get richer, poor get poorer
Democrats: Rich get poorer, poor get richer
Neo-Cons: Rich oil company CEOs get richer, poor sent to fight wars to make the former even richer

That pretty much sums it up.

Very little has changed with that group, except their party affiliation.

Vic posted a definition earlier.... essentially a Neo-con is pro-israel, pro-military (as in pro-miltary intervention, not just "support the troops"), and anti-communist.

I could never be a neocon since I am more of an isolationist - I believe Israel's problems are her own and we shouldn't attempt to intervene and the only military actions I support are defensive. I don't believe in the US engaging in nation building or being the world's police.

If democrats were serious about helping the poor, they'd sacrifice their lives in luxury to live amongst the poor and help educate them... if democrats did that... i'd probably join their party just to help people...

as it is though... I'm a republican who has more than enough money... so after giving to the church and taking care of my debts and needs... I give alot of money away... I also volunteer at soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and other local charitable orginizations.

P.S. if you're gonna give me some BS about I only do it for tax write offs... I don't even apply for such things. The bonus I get for giving is feeling good about helping people who need it.

I was once such a Neocon that actually enjoyed watching 'Shock and Awe' and the beginning stages of the war on CNN.
The sight of American 'power' being exercised excited me and gave me feelings of superiority and feelings of revenge
(for 9/11 although I knew even then there was no connection... it was at least us hurting 'them'). I was feeling red, white and blue pride with every cruise missile launched.

Then, slowly I started to realize how sick these feelings are. Slowly I started to realize that when my feelings of nationalism dwarf my feelings of empathy for another human being I've got f*cking problems.
This started a 2 year long, and still going, reappraisal of my entire belief system. When I started applying logic, reason, and, most importantly, humanity to my views I was horrified by what I found.

I'm not saying all Neocons suffer these feelings... but many do. Many wholeheartedly support military actions because it pleases them to see the lethal enforcement of American will.
Some are just stone cold 'America first at any cost' bastards who don't pretend to be saving the world... I hold some respect for this crowd because at least they are honest.
My respect for this crowd is usually quickly lost when they start moaning about attacks on America..... export violence and it will be imported. It's a simple, and FAIR, equation.

IMHO neither the Democatic party nor the Republican party have the interests of the American people at heart. The system is rotten to the core. TAKE PRIVATE MONEY COMPLETELY OUT OF POLITICS or it will NEVER change.

It's the only solution I've come to believe. Let's sharpen our plastic spoons in preperation for a people's coup.
