I haven't paid my membership dues in 14 years so I'm an ex-member. The magazine and special interest groups were mildly interesting in the days before the intraweb but belonging now does seem a bit pointless.

High levels of smartness don't automatically make a person more creative, capable or successful, so clinging to a Mensa pin as a sign of greatness is almost as pathetic as being proud of having a blog :) . And we've learned from The Simpsons that intelligence alone does not make one fit to lead or govern.

A group of self gratifying pseudo intellectuals who can only get recognition from their own phoney elite cohorts.

If you don't get it yet, I don't think much of Mensa.

You said it better than I ever could ;)

All I got out of that was: "whinewhinewhinewhine..."

Meh, I got about 5 questions into it and wondered to myself "whats the point of this?".

I've already taken my fair share of IQ tests and have gained nothing from any of them.

I heard Richard Simmons got very excited at the prospect of joining the Mensa until someone explained what it was to him.

I passed the Mensa test (from an ad in some magazine) when I was 12. I was attracted because the ad promised group discounts for members on a number of things. I did not join. For the record, I have NEVER known anyone who didn't pass that stupid test. I think it's a scam.

Secondly, over the years, I have met a number of actual members. Without exception, they were tedious social retards who, while they may or may not have a high IQ, lacked social and emotional intelligence lacking wisdom and insight and were bloated, boring, social bottom feeders whom any one of us would avoid like hell in any public setting.

Mensa sucks. Their members suck worse.

Have never been to a mensa function or anything, perhaps it'd change my more tolerant view of them. Did want to point out though that I think social & emotional "intelligence" is nothing more than a measure of how average someone is. What is being a people-person, really, but relating to people? And how many Mensa members - how many ATers even - can relate to the average joe, who watches reality TV, accesses the internet through AOL and has trouble tying his shoes?

I got 20 out of 30 and I didn't answer any of the word questions where you had to write in the answers.

I have met some very stupid people that are in mensa.
Seriously, they had some book smarts and were good at math problems, but no common sense at all and no people skills. If you can't apply brains to every day reall life, then what's the use.
