Are you a good tipper?

Vote, and give a reason either way.

Servers, feel free to vent.

I put myself into the awesome category, but then again, I always set myself up for good service.

If my total is under $15, I usaully tip 100%.

matters . . . if it is crappy service, then 5% or less

good, expected service - 15%

OUTSTANDING SERVICE - 25-35%

this is my system

i start at 15% and if you do a great job, you go to around 20%

if you suck, you fall to around 10%

it's hard to fall but pretty easy to move up closer to 20%

Usually I tip around 15-20%. If I order something small then I'll leave a larger tip relative to the total cost of my meal.

I suppose if I wasn't a poor graduate student then I would tip a little bit more.

Usually about 20% if they do a good job. If they were really awesome, or it was a hot waitress, or both, it'll jump higher.

If you have a bad attitude or are rude and unhelpful, you get $1 or less(depending on the restaraunt).

Hell yeah I tip well, but I also do not hesistate to let people know when their service sucks. Being a Pizza delivery guy, I cna't help but leave very good tips when I dine out.

15 usual, but usually more. 10 if it's not so good.
the denny's at my campus scored a record $0.01 from my friend for the worst service we had ever imagined. it closed down that year.

tax X 2 (8.725% tax here in NY). I just round down to the nearest dollar in most cases since it's already over 15%.

20% all the time.

If they're great, I'll say, "Twenty percent is good."
If they're bad, I'll say, "They tried hard," or "They must be having a bad day."

I don't have a "set" tip %. Im not very picky when it comes to service, so I hardly ever tip below 15%, but in some cases they deserve less.

I usually give a 20% plus tip. If it is bad service and if I'm in a restuarant I will will use ketchup to glue a decent tip to the bottom of a plate and spin a nickel and bust the bottom out of the salt shaker if its plastic. For delivery people I usually give a decent tip for bad service because it usually isn't their fault.

And you wonder why you get bad service the next time you go in. You probably wonder why your food tastes like saliva also. Keep up the good work.

Yep, happens sometimes, but the customer doesn't know that. When that happens on my shift, I let the cooks know about it, and they pump out 8 minute tickets the rest of the day or night. (this rarely ever happens on my watch). Speaking of that, last Friday, my kitchen guys were selling 7 minute tickets most of the night.

"Bad Service" is so subjective. I've seen servers get the shaft if the cooks mess up on the food. That's just not right.

Who rates their servers customer service level based on when the food comes? That is just retarded...

IMO if you put out an honest effort to refill my drink and actually care about what you do I'll really take care of you.

If you don't take pride in your work and expect a tip anyway (as a lot of servers do these days and get away with it) I won't give you a red cent.

The original post in this thread is what is wrong with service these days. He or She asked this question without ever asking about the service the customer recieved.

I drink alot. Sometimes 5 full glasses of lemonade, but usually 3 minimum. If he keeps my drink filled and I never have an empty cup that means he is making an effort to keep an eye on our table and at least checkup on us. That is my meter to tip and if they do I usually tip 15-20%

whenever we go out, we usually just double the tax (8.25%) for easy computation. if it's good service, we'll tip more. if it's not as great, we tip less.

if you're like that one time we went to that restaurant and the server forgot about us the rest of the night and didn't even come back for the check, no tip for you.
