Different question so instead of butting in on Jugernot's question "Do you lock your door?" I ask...

Are you obsessive about door locking?

Symptoms include:
Locking the house door behind you as you walk in with your groceries.
Locking the house door while you walk out to the curb to get mail, retreive something from car, etc.
Locking the bathroom door, even when nobody else is in the house.

Locking the car door while you're fueling. Even when you pay at pump.
Locking the car door and setting the alarm as you walk in to pay for gas.
Locking the car door and setting the alarm as you walk over to drop a letter in a mailbox.

I'm not like this, heck haven't locked my car door in years. It actually bugs me though when obsessive locking types do that around me, when it's just you and someone else at a gas station or post office in broad daylight and they lock up and set the alarm to walk 15 feet away - and right back - it makes me wonder what manner of criminal I look like. Well, guess car theif, otherwise they wouldn't get out and share a parking lot with me, eh? :)

First poll attempt, hope I get this right....

I leave my front door unlocked if I'm just stepping out to get my laundry, take the trash out, etc. If I'm leaving for a while, then the door gets locked for sure.

Don't lock the front door if I'm checking the mail or going out to my car. If I go anywhere, though, yes, I do. Don't lock my car door when I'm getting gas and I leave it unlocked in the parking lot at work. It's busy and I'm only out of the car for about 10 minutes and I can always see it. Not obsessive, but not stupid, either.

I am a living example of the following adage:

You can take the boy out of the city, but you can never take the city out of the boy.

I lock everything....0002 seconds after I walk thru/close it. I am O.C. about checking my front door before going to bed. I push/pull the front door a minimum of three times after locking it...I am so afraid of being ripped off.

Only if I'm being pulled in by a hot, demanding woman and in the midst of disrobing.

Don't want anyone walking in, now do I?

Wouldn't that kind of preclude any thoughts of locking the door in the first place? Mr. Happy don't wanna wait any longer than he has to :D

Mr. Happy also doesn't want to be interrupted by a roommate coming home.

Two seconds delay now is time well spent.

Heck, me and my roomates go to school and leave the door open half the time.

Stupid perhaps but nothing has been stolen yet.

I have two young daughters and a wife. I lock every door in the house and do a walk around every day before leaving for work.

Oregon State, huh?

On a totally unrelated note, I think I'll take a road trip. Yeah. With a cube van and a few friends. :D

It's like one motion for me to open my car door and hit the lock button. Unfortunately, that means that whenever I have someone in the car who opens their door after me, their door is left unlocked. Oops.

I've heard too many horror stories not to be an obsessive locking person. I always lock my apartment when I'm inside, period. I always lock the door when I leave, unless I'm going out to get the mail or put out the trash. If I'm not coming right back, I lock the door.

I lock the door when I'm getting gas. I've had my car broken into TWICE. I keep it locked and the alarm armed at all times when I'm away from the vehicle. In my home town, someone left their car for 3 minutes to pay for gas. While they were away, someone slipped in their car and into the back where they hid. After the person left the station, they made them empty their account at an ATM, pull over, and then the guy slit the person's throat and took the car. This all happened in broad daylight, in a nice area of town.

I figure it only takes a second to lock your door, and it could save you a world of trouble.

And then 30 seconds later the door gets unlocked and you leave ;)

i tend to be pretty careful about locking because where i'm from you get jacked as soon as you turn your back
