His apartment is filled with DVDs and CDs packed with bootleg anime, comic books, books, e-books, television programs, movies and, of course, music. He's a completionist who must have every episode, every issue, every track.
...
"Why not just watch 24 when it's on?" I ask. With a few exceptions, I point out, he's downloading current programs. Wouldn't it be easier to buy a TiVo?

i used to be when i first got broadband but that only lasted about a month

Both digital and real world. But every once in a while I'll have a big cleaning purge.

I just archive ATOT for future blackmail use.

Come on mealtickets, hurry up and get rich or run for high office.

I've often wondered what someone would know about the people on this board if they could read and remember every post. Aside from going insane, I'd imagine they'd know a lot about a lot of people. I guess the same is true for myspace.

I thought the same thing. My media center is 3.5 TB alone. I don't consider myself a packrat and I probably have about 6.7 TB of storage.

I dunno - is this bad?

From the nvidia drivers folder on a server. The entire nvidia folder is around 2GB and it's drivers from detonators to farceware. :p

ACK! I checked the browser plugin source folder and it goes back to quicktime 2.x and acrobat 2.x! :Q AOL versions back to 3.0 for 9x on there too. Nero goes back to 4.x. Wow that stuff adds up.

"It starts with good intentions. 'I'm going to get all of these movies while I can.' But then what happens? It becomes such a huge selection that if you want a particular movie, you have to look through thousands and thousands of others to find it," Reinardy said.

In practical terms, the collection becomes useless.

I dunno about him, but my computer is capable of searching for files by name - how cool is that?!

What a load of trash.

Usually when my drive fills up that's when I start looking at what stuff I want to keep. If it's something I want but don't look at or use often, then it gets archived to dvd. This frees up a bunch of space and then you can start over filling it up again.

I developed a bad habit of hoarding program and driver archives from back when I had dialup. Even after having had broadband for several years, I somehow haven't managed to kick the habit.

I have this same problem. Every time I download something from the web (game demo, app, driver, whatever), it goes into e:\downloads. When it gets to 4.3gb, I burn it to DVD. I have about 15 of these DVDs.
