I overclock my own stuff, compulsively. I leave everyone else in the house at stock. I leave my company's computer -- I telecommute now and again -- at stock. But I shove Linpack up my main rig and my test rig. Linpack without AVX for my i7 860. Linpack with AVX2 for my Haswell and Devil's Canyons. I shove them up to where they are heat-limited, and stop it there. They rarely reach stability-limited. And yet, as the guy noted above, most of the time the machines hardly rumble.
Overclocking is a fun way to burn off hours, but actually the SSD makes a bigger difference for all my machines. I have back-fitted all the machines I can reach with SSDs.
