I find it most annoying when people dislike/hate/discriminate against the "big guys" JUST BECAUSE they are successful and/or established.

Microsoft
McDonalds
Walmart
Olive Garden
<name commercialized band here>
etc.

It doesn't matter what industry... people like to root for the underdog and because of that, they are in love with the idea of bashing the giant. Domino's or Pizza Hut? "Nope... I want the pizza at my local place because they make the good stuff." Windows? "Nope... I run BSD/Linux even if I have to jump through hoops to get everything working properly." Olive Garden? "Hahah... that's not real Italian! Chain restaurants suck." Hmm... the best example of all... "I hate <commercialized band here> because they 'sold out'. They should've stayed 'underground' so only special people like me know about them and then I can truly call them my band."

Yeah, ok. They only became big because we're all robots taken in by the advertisements. Right, that's right.

Root for the small businesses/entities all you want but don't go around spouting your hate for the other guy JUST BECAUSE they're too big or successful for your liking.

I have my own business that has to compete with larger corporations...but that doesn't mean I hate them. I still buy things from them that can help me with my own business. They have their strong points and not so strong points...and so do I.

I enjoy microsoft and I love wal-mart. Mcdonald's and olive garden both suck. The Olive Garden ISN'T anything close to real italian food. Carraba's is also a franchise and their food is a million times better.

Gee, I thought this was going to be a thread about big guys, not companies.

I try to eat at local restaurants just because going to chain restaurants gets boring over and over again. Anywhere you go you can go to a chain restaurant. If you're on vacation you should try out the small local places. IMHO at least.

I have nothing against big chains. I used to. When I was in Jr High i refused to go into the clothing section in Wal-mart because someone might see me. Now, thats the only place I get my socks, underwear, t-shirts, and various other things and I don't mind wearing shirts from there either.

I think it something people out grow. These companies would not be successful if people did not outgrow that in their life. Personally, I would rather have Olive Garden just as much as most other local Italian restraunts. Wal-mart, McDonalds, Microsoft, all of those companies I think need to make sure they keep their priorities straight. They realize with a big name that opens the door for better advertisement of their business (in franchises) but regardless of what your name is if you can't have good service, keep the place clean, and keep serving warm food/make sure your products are quality, then you will only see the popularity dwindle. Microsoft, for the most part, released a good Windows version with XP. Most of us use that or 2000. ME was a fluke because it had nothing much to offer other than bugs.

Thats another issue, but, to answer your question directly. I do not hate large chains as long as they keep the same quality of service fro mteh time they only had one store to the time they opened hundreds.

A lot of people must really like you, huh?

I shop at Wal-Mart, but I'm getting tired of seeing all the other stores go down because of them.

I like to have options.

It's probably far easier for a dominant corporation to engage in practices that a person would find objectionable. But maybe there are people who just hate the mainstream in all its forms.

Wal-Mart is the only one on that list that I don't like. And that's only because all the Walmarts around here suck compared to everything else.

Olive Garden is yummy.
