Check with your local law enforcement angency. True xenon lights should not be blue.

I don't know about the headlights, but non-red (brake) or amber (turn) taillights are likely illegal everywhere. Gotta have DOT approved.

tailights are gonna be hard to pull off

you might be able to work with xenon's if you have a nice car...but bright blue xenons on some old honda or something are a prime target for cops....

Ricer lights with a blue tint are not the same as HID Xenon lamps

I am lazy so you get the first Link I could find

"The German Automobile Tuners Association VDAT e.V. is warning of a new threat for traffic. More and more drivers fit out their vehicle with coloured caps for the bulbs of their headlights to visually simulate the bluish light effect of the ultra-technical Xenon headlights.
In extensive tests at the light application laboratory of VDAT e.V. member Philips Automotive Lighting, these caps, which are sold under the name ?Xenon-Effect-Caps?, were compared with the standard lights. The result was as clear as alarming: After fitting the ?Xenon-Effect-Caps?, the light efficiency was up to 50 per cent poorer what means a definite threat for traffic. Because of these properties these parts have no TÜV-homologation. A similarly miserable result was achieved with the use of bulbs with unprofessionally tinted wedge cap, which don?t have any kind of homologation, too.
The result of the test is clear: A vehicle with illegaly fitted caps or bulbs can be made out worse during the hours of darkness and the road illumination is drastically impaired. Other cars, motorcycles, cyclists, pedestrians or obstacles can be recognized later than with the standard lights. So there is a higher accident risk. Anyway the fitting of the coloured caps has a negative influence on the heat balance inside the headlights: The reflector can burn which causes expensive repairs.
Illegal modifications on the lighting equipment are no peccadillo: The type approval of the vehicle ceases to exist after fitting the ?Xenon-Effect-Caps? and in the extreme case, the insurance cover doesn?t exist anymore. In the case of a crash, the financial ruin of the car owner can be the consequence of fitting these illegal accessories. "

What gunbuster said.
In most places blue lights (front or rear) are probably illegal. I know they are in Jersey.
True Xenon HID lamps may seem blue, but they are really a brighter shade of white. They illuminate better, brighter and farther. Real HIDs are legal everywhere AFAIK.
It's pretty easy to spot the difference between cheap blue-tinted bulbs and real HID lights. And if I can tell, I imagine the cops can, too ;)

Do we kill him now, before he goes for a fart tip and extreme wings, or do we give him a chance to see the error of his ways?

Those lights should be illegal. They are very dangerous (blinding) to other people on the road. I don't know why they are legal.

If you get blue tinted bulbs as opposed to the true xenon system mentioned above (generally a 2k retrofit) you can expect two results. A fixit ticket or a trip to the pokey for being the blue light rapist. Blue is a color reserved for law enforcment, display or use of it on the highways is a serious offense. True Xenon systems aren't blue.

I would guess they would be legal.

I see nothing wrong with them and they do not bother me at all unless I actually look at them long enough and then my eyesight is affected.

<< yep... tail lights and brakes should be Red, turn signals Yellow reverse should be White there should be Zero exceptions. >>

brakes and reverse lights i say no exceptions.... but turn signals don't matter so much if they're yellow (and actually most cars are orange btw) IMO. i mean, if you see a blinking white/blue light, its not gonna be any harder to see or distinguish between a blinking yellow(orange) light

<< Okay people....lemme be more specific...

Are these lights legal?

Those are not a Xenon system, they are blue tinted bulbs. They reduce visibility and if you piss of a cop you will get a ticket for having a blue light on your car.

In NC you can not have Blue or Red in the Front, and No Blue in the rear. And you can't have white light in the rear if the car is moving forward.
I use to do State Inspections and I have failed people for this. Mostly some little POS rice burner, but ever now and then some big truck with Blue or Red on the front would come in.

And like everybody else said, xenon is not blue, it should be a VERY brigth white light that has a slight blue tint to it as it is very hot and gives off a blue color.

A lot of older cars used the same light/lens for brake, signal and tail light.
I do agree with you that there should be standards for all newer cars.

Blue tailights... uh I guess you could waste your money on buying blue colored tailights just to put them under a red reflector!
If you have clear taillights, you WILL get a "fixit" ticket from cops... and a few folks like RaginBitch that would hit you to collect money from your insurance company. :p

You need a red reflector to be DOT legal... there are plenty of nice aftermarket tailights with red reflectors. Oh, and blue tint headlights actually reduce your vision at night... but they are legal... and they do adversely effect the night vision of everyone that comes into contact with your lights... that holds true for real HID Xenon lamps too... enjoy.

If you want better headlamps, either get a higher wattage lamps & harness or get bulbs that have no tint and aren't yellow. Phillips makes them too.

I don't mind those people that have clear turn lamps and amber bulbs or people with real HID conversions. Heck, I think having superwhite bulbs for your reverse lights is better looking than stock, but why spend extra cash to change a perfectly working light when you can spend it on actually making your car faster?!

Oh, and if I see a ricer with blue/clear lights and those gay washer LEDs, I generally like to show them my nice all red taillights.
I especially hate it when people don't realize that high beams blind people at night especially when they have HIDs... man that sucks... they can blind every single lane on a 3 lane highway from behind...

Just remember that vehicle laws are defined at the state level. Blue incandescent or halogen bulbs and blue lenses are not legal in NJ and I'm sure they're not legal in other places as well.
