d) I think that women tend to be worse drivers when "bad" is defined by my personal definition of bad (= "inattentive and unplanned"; I find tail-gating and excessive speeding pretty gender neutral, and otherwise aggressive driving -male dominant in my experience- doesn't offend me much - i.e. quick lane changes and the like).
e) The only driver I feel relatively safe with is me (most of the time, anyway). I expect that to begin fading in my fifties and sixties, until I simply no longer feel secure in a moving vehicle.
So while I don't perceive the situation the same as the OP, I can certainly understand the perception.
I'd agree with most of that. Although I wouldnt say *most* people are rotten drivers. At least in my area, most people are pretty well behaved, its just the idiots that you remember.
In my experience, a bad woman driver is more likely be innattentive and hesistant, resulting in causing accidents that confuse the hell out of her..."I dunno what just happened!"
A bad male driver is going to be aggressive, and risk taking. Tailgating, fast turns etc. Hesitance is a virtue when you really shouldn't be doing something, like cutting out in front of people, not watching your mirrors etc. He's more likely to be paying attention, but will get in accidents cause he cut it too close, or didnt look in the first place, cause he didnt care to. Its not inattentiveness, its ambivalence.
To exemplify it:
I've had men actively try to run me off the road when I've went out in front of them, and they perceived it as cutting them off. Sure, I provoked him a bit, but he really was trying to kill me. I've had douchebag ricers cut in between two cars with *barely* enough space for them to make the change. I've had men cut me off, forcing me to slam on my brakes, just so they could save a few seconds. I've also nearly been absolutely smashed to pieces by red light runners who think the yellow light means speed up, even if it's a blip on their horizon. A guy cut across 4 lanes of traffic, and slammed on his brakes to make an exit to a gas station, and nearly killed my gf.
On the other hand, I've had women see a yellow light, and slam on their brakes, causing me to have to slam on mine and dodge...thank god for ABS. I've had women not know what to do in a merge lane, run out of space, and decide that side-slamming me is the only alternative to not hitting the barrier in front of her, rather than use that useful thing called the brake pedal. I've had women nearly rear end me cause I didnt turn right as soon as she expected. My ex, within a matter of months, managed to blow both her right tires by hitting a curb at 50mph, rear ended one person, sideswiped another person, couldnt park her car without denting her bumper, and put *herself* in the middle of the lane, and me as the passenger saw the wall and cars flying by, inches away on my right side.
You can *usually* see the men coming, and keep your distance. The women just get you when you least expect it.
