Are wireless mice compatable with other reciever besides the original ones?

Just wondering if the recievers are specifically "paired up" with the mouse they came with, or can they work with other mice of the same brand.
 
The same question that I am asking. Hope my current wireless combo of laptop will not interfere with my desktop's wireless combo which is on its way now.

Anyone has such experience?
