how much is the big green egg?

A Big Green Egg cost about $1000 for the Large Egg, a nest/stand, and side tables. I got mine at ACE Hardware a week before Father's Day. I have cooked on it a most every weekend and a few times during the week.

You my say that it really expensive but it is a Direct Grill and Smoker made out of ceramic material. I have loaded it once in the morning and have cooked over 12 hours on it with out reloading.

I know several people that have spent $800 on a gas grill.

For that kind of money, I would pay one of my blacksmithing friends to custom build me a grill. Oh wait, they already did and for a LOT less than $400 to $600.

Amazon + Weber = a shitload of WIN!

Old Kenmore.

Breastesess.

Country pork ribs.

It was with great trepidation and much anxiety that I had to finally replace my trusty Kenmore gas grill ^ ^ . It has served me well since 2004 and I was happy to buy new parts for it every few years just to keep it working. Sears screwed up though... no more parts available.

To the web(ATOT included) to research gas grills! Weber wins most of the categories that are important to me. Amazon had the model I want on sale with free shipping and no tax... pulled the trigger on 9/21 and it was delivered 9/24.

So my neighbor Will, me, and our buddy Sam Adams assembled this beast Saturday, 9/26 to prep for the Bruins/Panthers game that evening.

Awesome grill! Crazy heavy duty, bulletproof materials. Perfect engineering/fit of the parts. iRONic approved.

That night I grilled some rib eyes, roasted carrots, and baked potatoes with the sauteed mushrooms & onions done on the side burner... perfect! Sunday I grilled italian sausages with the sauteed peppers 'n' onions done on the side burner. Perfect again!

Summer may be over but I cook on the grill year-round. Reviewers state they can still buy parts for Weber grills they bought ten years ago. I'm down with that.

And the thing I like most about this Weber; my bruins grill cover fits it!!
How's this for a 13-year-old necro? 😲

I started getting cold spots on the grill. Inspection revealed the burner tube has finally rusted out. On Weber’s site if you put in your grill S/N on the warranty page it will tell you what is available. Unfortunately my tube only had a 10 year warranty. No problem, I got my moneys worth out of that one. It gave me the part number online and I checked for availability from their parts department. $97. Backordered!

To Amazon… several aftermarket burner tube vendors available. Checking all the reviews is the best way to go about this. I ended up getting an aftermarket unit that has excellent reviews for $40 less than Weber!

Installation was a bitch because of the rusty attachment hardware. Two drill bits later and I was back in business!

Besides this tube I’ve replaced the flavor bars once and the igniter battery several times. The grill is either covered or under the patio as long as we’ve had it. It survived the move from CT to KY in a shitty truck 😡 by an even shittier moving company.

I have a BGE now also. That's where the premium meat is grilled now along with all the smoking duties. Burgers, dogs, veggies, etc. still come off the Weber though. Prolly get 13 more years out of it.

My Weber is well over 20 years old, and gets a lot of use.
The reason is simple, virtually everything can easily be obtained and replaced. I figure my Weber will keep going until the frame actually rusts through, which doesn't seem likely.
I've replaced burners several times, probably every 4 - 5 years, flavor bars, usually at the same time. Grates, once, upgraded to cast iron. Regulator and hose once. Mine sits out in the weather, don't bother with a cover as I think it just traps moisture in, vs, drying out either by moving air or sun shining on it.
The main annoyance is that squirrels take to chewing the burner knobs for some reason.

Since this thread got necro'd...the Weber I posted about lasted us over 12 years. I replaced the burners and flavor bars, along with a few misc. parts under warranty after about 6 years, and it would probably still be in use except, after being stored outside in the PNW rain, the cart rusted away.
I replaced it with a small BroilKing. It's decent...but, IMO, not as good as the Weber.

Nice necro and yes I agree first grill was a low end Weber that lasted us 10 years maybe 12 years.
its Charbroil replacement had parts fail on month 15 and now around month 24 it is not functional without replacing a crap ton of parts.
Weber is 3x the cost and 5x or more the life.
