Are we just our material bodies?

I don't think I'm gonna die. I think I'll just be deleted. Like a program in The Matrix that's fulfilled its purpose.

But seriously yeah I think there's something after death. Otherwise seems like an awful big waste to me.

I'm highly doubtful that our being here is just a coincidence. The thing is this is a question that no one can answer for anyone else...it must be a personal experience.

Since nobody knows for sure (at least for now) you can believe whatever the heck you want to believe. Personally I'll go with consciousness transcends the body though not in religious ways.

Short answer: More than likely
Long answer: Our existance is nothing more than chemicals and electricy in our brain. Once the electricity stops flowing sentience stops and it doesn't make any sense for us to regain sentience in some afterlife where we spend the rest of eternity after being judged from our actions on Earth.

Reminds me of a quote I came across....

"Science does not know how we learn and remember, nor how we think and communicate, nor how the brain stores information, nor what the relationship
between language and thought is. Science does not know how living cells interact
with nonliving matter. It does not know what the origin of the universe is, nor
how old the universe is, not what the ultimate fate of the universe will be."
[Charles M. Vest, professor, president of MIT, in the International Herald Tribune, January 16, 1996, p.8]

That's a very stupid, stupid quote from someone who is presumably a smart guy. The reason I assert this is because you could append the whole thing with "Yet" and it would be equally valid. In addition, the statement "science does not know how living cells interact with nonliving matter" is just plain silly, because we know a lot about how cells interact with various chemicals, nutrients, and other substances; most of which are "not alive". It sounds to me like he was just talking out his ass, pretending to be a philosopher.

There is deniable evidence of the supernatural.

Er, what? If you're trying to say "undeniable evidence", can you provide such evidence that will stand up to the scientific method? (Scientific method meaning holding up under controlled, repeatable experimentation.)

Could have been taken out of context, true. Escpecially since a lot of those unknowns are fairly well know, if not VERY understood. Linky Anyone? I got to go take a final so I'll look for one afterwards.

I found the quote online but no context
