We fought a civil war to force Democrats to give up on slavery 150 years ago. They've become so desperate for servants that now they're importing an underclass to wash their clothes and pick their vegetables. This vast class of unskilled immigrants is the left's new form of slavery.

I found her link off of google news links of all places, go figure. The world's formost neurotic blonde, well second as Paris is still free, has got part of this right.

What are we doing? Excusing a class of people just so we can golf and have cheap locally produced vegetables? I think Dick Morris is correct as well when it comes to Amnesty, the Republicans are doing this because when signed it will be a REPUBLICAN President's signature on the bill thereby buying the votes of latinos down the road.

What I actually liked about her article is the beginning, no law is 100% effective, but that does not mean we should give up.

Both parties have changed so much over time that they basically flipped positions a couple times.

On this subject, how the hell does a person believe in minimum wage and then demand we ?need? a sub-class of workers? We?re dealing with illegal immigration the wrong way. We should SEAL our border and then wage a campaign against EVERY SINGLE employer who hires an illegal.

When there are no jobs, they?ll either turn violent and then we can deal with them, or they?ll go home where they belong instead of assimilating our country. Germans, Italians, and others may have come here last century but FFS people we never had to convert to their society and learn THEIR language! Ann has a somewhat valid point in calling illegal immigrants 'the new slave class'. She's off her rocker as usual in pointing the finger at democrats about it.

Powerful nations have always exploited others for labor and goods. The US was largely built by slave labor, and then immigrant labor, and then the labor of blacks held down by racism until the 1960's; now, it's 15+ million illegal immigrants.

The democrats' agenda is for prosperity for everyone as much as possible, and with 'human' and 'moral' considerations applied. The republicans have two wings; one wants the border sealed and Americans' interests purportedly protected without any concern for the Mexicans; the other wing is the corporatist/business wing who like the cheap, powerless illegal labor without any concern for the American workers.

It's the latter, business wing of the republican party that pushes the programs to keep the cheap workers that piss off the first wing of the party. Both parties dance around the issue, though, with so many groups to anger - Mexicans themselves, who perhaps surprisingly are not just pro-illegal immigrant; business; 'average Americans'; and more.

The bottom line is that the American people like the economic benefits of the cheap labor, and contradicting that, they hate (the myth about) the illegal immigrants costing the nation a fortune in services and wanting them gone, and so that's what they get from the politicians they elect - talk about doing something about the illegal immigrant,s while really allowing them to keep doing the cheap labor.

The politicians know that the hit on the economy from actually doing something would cause them big political problems. If that wasn't the case, Bush and others would take the big hit politically by pushing 'amnesty' type programs.

To be honest, though, I think a considerable percentage of the 'right-wing' population actually shares their IDEALS with hate groups such as the KKK. I don't know of *ANYONE* who shares their ideals with Nambla.

Actually the Democrats want to legalize them to buy their vote, plain and simple, all the while selling their true AMERICAN CITIZEN constituents down the river at the same time. They realize you are too dumb to notice and will continue to vote for them anyway. If the Democrats want to raise their standard of living through legalization why are they not pushing to force these employers to pay higher wages now and actually employ AMERICAN CITIZENS?
