Ah well.

The human race is too petty. It's extinction wouldn't matter. Its not like one asteroid could do more damage than the whole of human existance. And thats a naturally occuring event as well.

So what? Some UN group is saying the environment might have problems in 50 years. This is supposed to bother me?

No we don't. It is sad but the almighty buck is more important.

I can't imagine the environmentalists are too happy about the US drilling for oil on that nature reserve in Alaska - you know, the one that was protected for generations until Bush finally found a way to cut through the red tape?

Bush found a way to cut through red tape? You mean where the Senate elected by the people of this country finally passed the bill to allow drilling. Why pretend that it is all Bush's fault?

Actually, the saddest thing is, people believe this chicken little bullsh!t.

Most of you aren't old enough, but the greenies have been pulling this "the sky is falling" bullsh!t for decades. NONE of their short-term doom predictions come true, and they end up with egg on their face.

Folks, what you have here is the greenie version of the religious nutball screaming about the end of the world.

That's what I figured.

You're right - Bush doesn't have anything to do with drilling there.

From the title, I thought this was some stupid study proving that we, as humans, have bones in our bodies. I thought it was a parody of the shoe-size thread.

The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment

It sounds like they already made up their mind before they even started their survey.

I'm not a reader of BBC, but just looking at the front page, it looks like a sensationlist newspaper.

Of course they had.

The sad thing is, the ignorant sheep will gulp this up and spew it out as "fact."

that was true decades ago, but for example, we have seen significant climate change in WA in the last 20 years- right on line with government (CSIRO) predictions...

think of it sensibly, does it seem like the planet can survive long-term, as we know it, with a massive proportion of its ecosystems changed beyond all recognition?

Newsflash:

The Earth's Climate has been changing ever since it formed. It was NEVER in a static state. Some of the historic changes were drastic and... get this... within a century.

The Bill died in the senate for years. This year it made it out of commitee and Bush signed it into law. You act like Congress is a rubber stamp. Maybe you need to study more about how our government works. The President doesn't make laws. He can't even introduce legislation. He can make suggestions, he can arm twist, but if Congress doesn't pass a bill, the President can't do anything about it.

Damn right

FACT: A single Volcano eruption does more damage to the Ozone layer than a whole year of California traffic.
