Are VisionTek Geforce2's any good?

I saw on pricewatch that I can get a VisonTek Geforce2 GTS for about $150. Are these cards any good? I've never heard of them. I know people say that all nVidia based cards are pretty much the same, but if that's the case then why aren't more people buying the less expensive cards like the VisionTek? I'm looking to replace my aging Voodoo3 3000, but I just don't have a lot of money. Should I go for the VisionTek or should I just shell out the extra cash for one of the more popular brands like Creative Labs, Hercules, and Asus?

Thanks,

The Visiontek is fine. If you'd rather have a card manufactured by creative, buy one from Untamo or Decoy, but the difference will probably be negligible. My advice is to get the cheapest one you can get your hands on, provided it doesn't use anything slower than 6ns infineon DDR memory which I think is the standard for GTS's.

** On second thought, I would seriously recommend that you buy your card from Untamo or Decoy. These guys are trustworthy, and I would feel safer buying from them than I would from some unknown pricewatch store.

I bought the visiontek card from http://www.edotdirect.com/
I will let you know what I find. There is talk on the hot deals forum. Some one posted that he thought the card is the same one that elsa uses.

Can some one confirm that?

Check Reseller Ratings if you aren't sure if you want to buy from a store you haven't heard of. I've heard the VisionTek has good 2d (better than other GeForce2's) and of course it is great in games.

valno600,

what did you find? are you happy with your visiontek geforce 2 gts purchase from edotdirect.com?

I'm considering the purchase as well. I've read very mixed reviews. Some said it required a bunch of IRQ tweaking to really get it to perform...I'd prefer a card I can slap in, install the drivers, and have fun. But to hear a review from an owner would be great!

Thanks,
Dave

Dave:

I just bought a VisionTek GF2 GTS 32mb from nutrend.com for $150. Installed it this morning and got it running at 225 core 397 mem. The card is the same as any other GF2, and VisionTek made some of the first Elsa GF2 when they came out. 3 year warranty. Not bad for $150.

Elsa has admitted that their cards are actually made by Vision Tek. Visiontek is I believe is mainly an OEM distributor which is why their cards are so cheap, they are all OEM. It uses the reference design and performs on par with any other GF2 32MB. It doesn't have a TV-out either, but if you are looking for a no frills at all GF2, then the vision tek is probably for you.

It's not cheap because of lack of quality, it just doesn't have all the retail packaging.

I just got my Visiontek video card, it is working just fine. it is stable and I got it for 165 shipping included. I ordered it from a company called Advanced vision, it is the cheapest company for getting the geforce2. Look on price watch.

It took a long time, but after I called them a coupe of times they got it strait, Hell 152 for a geforce is a great deal. And they come through on their shipping, I was worried but now I am glad.

If you see the advanced vision guys on price watch, they are a good company, they are just starting so they may fumble the order, but a call should get it strait.

P.S. did I say how pleased I am with the card.
