Tempted to go for a Red Devil 6800xt @ $669, but have feeling remorse will set in when new cards may be out by end of year (4080 or 7800).

The N6 wafers are being taken by the Zen4 IOD. 😉 That's way more important to AMD than a tiny ~80mm2 chiplet on N5. N33 on N6 means way less IOD for a lot of the upcoming Zen4 products.

Thanks, I get the point, even more difficult to tell with fast paced games like shooter/looters for example. In the heat of a battle, a player is not going to be standing still observing shadow authenticity & lighting aspects... 🙂 its' fps that matters!

Think it depends on the game engine & optimizations. Take for example Borderlands 3, in 2021 the devs launched an update to the game to improve DX12 performance. When I checked review of this card over on TPU, the card was competing with RTX 3080/90 cards at the time & even then they were all struggling to get over 105 fps @ 1440p... however their test setup was using a coffee lake platform so there could be a bottle neck there.

The merge combined with the 4000 approaching ever closer could easily result in the most insane GPU tsunami we will ever see. The rare conditions that all came together to make this possible could easily never happen again. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3080s hitting around $350 at some point. People with a garage full of them will want something for them rather than nothing. I know I would.

We might also see a much reduced demand due to a global recession, driving the prices down of both new and old.

However, it's hard to predict to what extend these things will happen and will happen at the same time.
 
Been tracking used 6900/6800 XTs, 6800 Vanilla, 6700 XT, 3060 Ti's, 3070's...

Even put a $315 bid in on a 6700xt and got crushed as the card moved for $360.

That said I am seeing more 6700's in the $200 range with multiple bids for longer, and more 6800's in the $350-450 range for longer (even if they ultimately sell at a higher price).

It does feel like things are slowing down, buyers are less competitive in their bidding, cards are hanging out at lower prices for longer.

Totally unscientific, but there is something in the air and card market is cooling.

Even 3060tis which were stupidly priced in the $450-550 range just a month ago have floated down to a more palatable (but still too rich for me) $350-450 range.

I can't imagine anything will ever touch the $200 to $230 brand new with two year warranty R9 290 plus four games that we saw in November 2014. Even the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 dropped to $230 new with four games. I remember wanting to buy a GTX 660 or R9 280 that summer but waited and waited and by the time I was ready to buy the 290 was cheaper than what I originally wanted to spend on the 280. R9 290 was like the RTX 3080 of the day, eg a smallish step down from flagship.

RX 580 was the last thing remotely similar... new for $199, with 2 games (either Division 2, Resident Evil 2 or Devil May Cry 5)

or are you thinking Nvidia is going to go bankrupt and cease to exist?
 
I think it is interesting that the 3080 12GB and 10GB can be found fo the same price atm. Makes you wonder who would choose the 3080ti over the 3080 12GB?

Jeez, apparently Nvidia are selling downclocked 3050's to OEMs. So now there are two versions, one being worse, with the same name. Beware if you buy 2nd hand.

I figured that Nvidia -- or really, the AIBs -- has too much stock in the 12GB model. I mean... EVGA literally priced the entire series at $799 including the high-end variants that usually command a $150-200 premium. I'll admit that I picked one up simply because it was really hard to ignore being able to buy an EVGA HydroCopper for the base card's MSRP ($799). On the other hand, when I looked at the 10GB model, it only had very modest price drops of maybe $50-100 depending on the variant.
 
I think that they've shut down the 10 GB production a while ago and planned to replace it with the 12 GB version.
