Tons of open box video cards at my local Microcenter. I'm guessing people returning cards en masse, either scalpers because they can't sell them or regular people in an anticipation of rapidly falling prices in the next few months.

Oh, and BTW, ETH PoS looks to be on track with successful merge on the testnet.

Prices are also falling here in Europe. Used market "heated" up couple weeks back and now the shops have plenty of inventory and they are lowering prices. Still far from cheap and it can only go down further.

I only game 2-4h/week so I'll manage :p

A bit of hyperbole helps with understanding. Gaming is still pretty cheap compared with other activities you can do.

A small anecdote; I saw an article about saving power, which claimed a "Gaming PC" (unspecified configuration of course) uses 1400KWh yearly. Doing the math on my own system (~200W), I'd have to game something like 19 hours a day 365 days a year to reach that kind of figure. I guess having a 3090 or similar would help a bit with that of course.

So I don't really have time to write this post... :p

3000 series prices will plummet before the next launch. Miners and scalpers will dump their 3000 series cards (gamers don't have these) for a low price, expecting to replace them with a 4000 series product. But that's a shame because Nvidia will release a total of FIVE (5,cinco,101) 4000 series cards and people will resort to hideous violence to get their hands on them. The 4000 series will be so expensive the price will simply go beyond money at that point. You must offer power and influence to obtain these rare objects.

I don't think that the miners are going to bother with 4000 series cards. If Ethereum migrates to proof of stake this summer as scheduled, they're going to struggle to get a serious return on their investment by then.

That's a good thing, because it means that gamers can actually get a hold of them!

Oh, I never doubted that gamers could get ahold of them. Gamers (those who are either rich or love debt and hate money) will get ahold of them after the bots and scalpers get them first. Then, gamers can get them second at 3x msrp for at least 6 months after release.

Why do normal gamers need a 4000 series card again? Is there some popular game that isn't running well with the 3000 series?

Looks like the 6900XT is down to ~$1200 or so for a working used card on eBay. My Radeon VII is now worth more at around $1300 for a working card (they're all used by this point).

$1049 new, after $50 MIR, @ Microcenter.

1). Good luck finding a card and
2). Not everyone has a Microcenter

At that price I'm fairly confident that you can go to your local Microcenter at some random time and find an empty shelf slot selling for $1050. Meanwhile, the used market will sell you one for $1200 immediately.

Not that I need it, but my monitor supports up to 240hz 5120x1440p, which is pretty close to 4K. So if I wanted 120fps+ or 200 fps+ I would need next gen hardware. I could definitely settle for 3080 performance, but now I'm not going to buy one as next generation is so close.
