Officemax has a deal where you can get a 48x12x48 Verbatim burner for 19.99$ after rebate

deal

The print ad says that the drive features burnproof technology, which should be exclusive to lite-on drivers, shouldnt it?

im really prudent in picking cd-rw drives now because my 24x QPS drive is really taking a dump on me while my former 16x lite-on was a champ. if this is a lite-on drive, would it also be reliable if flashed to 52x24x52? (speed of the other "verbatim" drive at officemax)

Verbatims used to be all Lite-ons but recently I've seen reports of other rebadges. You can always buy it and check it out. Take it back if it isn't a liteon. I've taken them back to OM up to 14 days no problem...opened too. Recently took back a Cendyne which was a Benq.
Got another Cendyne over Christmas that was an Aopen. I kept that one since it only cost $10 after rebates from Staples. I burns fine but is as noisey as a freight train.
Like you I prefer the Lite-ons but they are getting harder to find as rebadges. I think the Buslink this week at BB for $29.95 after rebates is a liteon...at least the one I got a month ago was. The tech guys at BB will know.

Also the guys at OM were wise to the Liteon thing too. Apparently the word is out.

You can tell the OEM by the case...and serial numbers so don't worry, just ask.

Cendynes that have a box serial number that starts with LTR are liteons for instance. Now, Verbatims I dunno without looking at the drive.
