Are USB clients par with PCcard adaptors on desktops?

I am looking at getting a USB client or PCcard adaptor and card for a wireless network....

Is one better than the other?

The Orinoco Gold USB client does not work with WinXP pro.... so that one is out.

What other good choices are there?

I will be using a Netgear MR814 wireless router. On only (2) machines, both running WINXP Pro.
Is the NETGEAR MA101NA Wireless USB Adapter, a decent pick?

Thanks for any help.

Why do you think that? That's probably our best choice if your sold on using the USB bus. Compatible with XP.

For standard 802.11b, USB is preferred. It's on the end of a cable, so you can stick it somewhere up high, where there's better reception. A little stub antenna sticking out of the back of a PCI card gets in the way in the back of your case and doesn't have any flexibility to position it for best reception.

I have been reading that Orinoco's wireless USB client does not have proper driver support for WINXP pro.

Interesting thread. It would give me pause had I not installed several Orinoco USB client devices on WinXP Pro without a hitch. Guess your mileage may vary.

Same here. :)

BTW, I never could figure out what was the real issue in the thread mentioned above, it never got to a resolution.

I might add the things can happen. I have an old Laptop that works OK with Proxim, SMC, and D-Link Wireless Clients, but refuses to work with the Orinoco Gold PCMCIA. I Spend a lot of time on it to no avail.

Yes... it does seem that sometimes error can be the part of the installer... Lack of experience can also be the cause. The thread I mentioned was work attempted by someone that did not have a lot of experience with setting up that type of equipment. User error? ;)

BUT... I am VERY interested in hearing more about how the Orinoco USB clients DO work with Windows XP "PRO". 2.0 USB or?

Thanks again for all the input. I am rather glad to hear the Orincoco HAS worked well under WINXP. Anyone else that has had success.... I hope you will post.
