are ugly people more funny?

I think ugly people have more incentive to be funny. It stands to reason that if you spend time working on being funny, you'll be better at it than someone who never felt the need to.

A lot of pretty girls probably think they are funny because all the guys sniffing around them fall over each other to be the first to laugh at their jokes, but you have to adjust for that if you want to get the truth. I'm not saying pretty people can't be funny, but it's easy to see why they might feel less need to be. It's also easy to see why they might think they are already funny when they're really not.

i think it's more of fat people than ugly.

tosh and chapelle are 2 of my favs and they are good looking dudes (no homo).

but other people i find funny are typically fatasses, mainly in movies. but then you got van wilder who girls love and he's hilarious.

but i guess most fat people are considered ugly by most too lol.

Not as a rule, no. But pretty people are more likely to not be funny.

I think 'funny' is more intelligence-related that some seem to think, though. Quick wit, proper timing, and whatnot. I feel like I have some blessing of 'teh funnay' due to my asshole analytical nature.

edit: and lack of a mental filter.

I would say 90% of the time if you can get a girl to laugh and smile all the time, she will be your girlfriend or future wife (assuming you are an ugly guy). Most girls don't want to be with a guy that makes their life miserable. :awe:

I'm beautiful and humorless, so I'll go with yeah.

And lol @ the implication that the pain of being called ugly is the only kind of pain.

I think it depends on the person. Olivia Munn just could not cut it on the Daily Show. I disagree that it was because she was pretty. . .in fact because she was pretty I (and others) wanted her to succeed. How great to have this beautiful woman be funny on the Daily Show?

I think what she is getting at is that someone who wants fame, who is pretty. . has more avenues than comedy. And she has exploited those. So what Galifinakis is saying, if he even said it, is that the best ugly comedians are going to be better than the best pretty ones because they had to have a better act to rise to the top.

Olivia isn't pretty. She's not ugly but I wouldn't call her pretty.

Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a horse and is not funny. Margaret Cho is ugly and is not funny. Rosie O'Donnell is both troll ugly and completely unfunny.

I think there is some truth to being a comedian and looks. I think it is easier to identify with a comedian who is average looking or below average. I am sure there are exceptions, but perhaps their humor is not as funny because of their looks.

The theory sounds plausible to me. Humans seek social acceptance and mating opportunities. Those who hit the genetic lottery and are very good-looking don't have to seek far beyond those assets for the win button. Others who are less physically attractive have to develop other assets or fail. The premise as stated in the OP is flawed, because obviously some attractive people are funny, and some unattractive people aren't. But if you're looking for overall patterns then this one seems a decent candidate.

In general I find this not to be true, although statistically there probably are more funny fatties than the other way round.
