I prefer females. My tom's a pain in the ass, but he makes me laugh. The girl's got a much sweeter disposition. Females are also less likely to have urinary tract issues.

Never had good luck with the personality of female cats. All my cats have been neutered males. Some are rescued strays and some were adopted from the humane society.

I have two cats.. both fixed. Well they are my roommates but fucking take care of them. One is a female maine coone from the shelter. She's scared of new people but super affectionate most of the time. If she don't know you though, she freaks out.

THe other one is a black cat, male. He's basically annoying most of the time. Talks constantly and won't leave you alone when he wants attention.

I like tomcats...they're usually more affectionate than the females of the species, BUT, they need to be cut when they're 6 months old so they don't piss everywhere to mark their territory.
