I'm not sure, if so... how much? He's by himself and gonna replace/fix the water heater and some stuff connected to it.

Gas heater cost more to replace/install than electric, gas tend to last a bit longer, cost a bit less to run than electric, higher maintainance than electric.

In my area it start from $700 to replace an average electric HWT, and gas start at $900. For most case electric HWT replacement is around $800-$900, and gas is around $1000-$1100.

There is probably some sort of Company Policy that will preclude him from accepting a tip or gratuity.
Damn shame , too, cause if bribes and greasing the skids aren't the most American of traditions, I;m watching the wrong movie !

I'd offer a drink or something. If someone from your house is going out around that time, I'd offer to pick up some food for them.

Nope. MAYBE offer him something to drink, otherwise, he's probably being well paid to do the job.

Yikes! Around here, an emergency job on a Sunday doesn't even cost that much. Installation usually takes well under 2 hours for a gas hot water tank, and on "lucky" jobs, the total labor is well under an hour on site.

Unless someone was replacing it for me because it was under warranty, I'd personally enjoy the satisfaction of doing it myself.

Here, including cost of the tank, you're looking at $750-$1000 to replace a hot water tank. Ours is 10 years old and due for replacement. (we have very hard water with lots of TDS...the tank probably weighs 500 lbs empty now.) :D

Depends on if he showed you his sweaty butt crack or not.

A 20 in the cheeks is always appreciated.

PSEG uses third party contractors. They have never declined a tip that I offered. If you feel it is deserved, offer it.
