Yes, it is supply and demand. The weather is getting hot so the prices go down...

Seriously, you may have a point. With all the crappy weather we have been having, noone has seen a need to buy AC. That is beginning to change though.

Why the hell would anyone put umbrellas on SALE during a rainstorm!?

Rain = higher demand for umbrellas = RAISE prices.

Hotter weather = more demand for AC units = RAISE prices.

I think your sarcasm meter is broken. You might want to have that fixed. :)

The prices of low-end window AC units have recently dropped because (1) the economy is still bad and (2) Goldstar, a Korean manufacturer, changed their name to LG and market-dumped their large remaining Goldstar-branded inventory. Other manufacturers had to follow suit and cut their prices as well.
Good time to buy an AC unit right now.

edit: to be clear, LG Electronics changed their name from Goldstar several years ago (about the time they bought Zenith), they just hadn't yet gotten around to changing the brand names on their low-end AC units.

I never even had an AC in my room until last year when I bought a 5000BTW window unit. After 21 years of 100 degree weather in my room (with I never did mind much), it now stays 80-85. It can be a lot cooler but I do not like paying expensive utility bills.

Just put in a 6K BTU unit in our "office" room at home. It would get hot in there from the computers running, let alone the weather. The thing is great... remote control, on/off timer, EER 11.0, and a fan that I can feel across the room. I mostly run it at 74deg F, but on "energy saver" mode, which means it's more lik 78deg, and the fan turns off for periods of time.

Picked up 2 6000btu window units last summer for our upper flat. The electric only went up about $10/month, so I was pleased. One unit on each end keeps the whole 2 bedroom flat at about 75'.
